So which one of you was it?

By Racingpost.com staff 3:38PM 20 MAR 2010
KIEREN FALLON was punched by an unnamed assailant when unsaddling from his mount Elna Bright following the second race at Lingfield on Saturday.
The stewards have launched an inquiry and have taken statements from Brett Johnson and Peter Crate, the trainer and owner of Elna Bright, who witnessed the incident.
Trainer Stuart Williams was also interviewed by the stewards and identified the alleged assailant, who the stewards are still seeking to interview.
Fallon said afterwards: "He came up behind me when I was unsaddling but I'm all right - he hits likea girl! I don't know what it was about."

 Theres a few things it could be about I suppose:ninja:

Can someone confirm what happened in the race as ATR did not show the incident again - at least not straight afterwards. Initially, it looked as if Fallon cut up The Scorching Wind and effectively put him out of the race. Was that before or after his mount went lame?

It's all go at Lingers these days! A few meetings ago (I wasn't on duty), our security staff sprinted across the road to the now derelict leisure club (Arena's flogged off the land, and the new onsite hotel will combine the functions), one of them making a citizen's arrest of some naughty geezers helping themselves to lead - and having the cheek to park their thieves' van in Lingfield's public carpark to effect the theft. Another few meetings ago, a 'character', well-known around the south-to-Midlands circuit, was escorted off-course by the two hired heavies shown on the RP online tonight, squealing "Jon! Jon! I don't know what I've done!" as if I could wrest him from their grasp. (He's back, having paid an unpaid debt reported to the BHA.) And now today - Reynolds looks a bit of a bruiser, and if one day I wring a smile out of him I'll consider my life worthwhile. Kieren felt his horse get struck into, and began to PU, rather than perhaps have it incur further damage. Obviously, Reynolds - they're gambling owners - must've been on his large, and decided that KF had scuppered his chances.

Peter Crate, though, the owner of the injured horse (ELNA BRIGHT) is a really lovely guy, attending today with his young son who'd just come from winning yet another pony race at Detling. He's very much a straight arrow and his kid, a terrific rider who's hoovered up Pony Racing Championships for the South, shouldn't have to see behaviour like this from a supposedly adult man.

Not sure what the final outcome will be - KF's mates (a little group who came through looked like all-in wrestlers!) were urging him to get Reynolds prosecuted for assault, but there's any amount of BHA rules to throw at him, including bringing racing into disrepute, endangering the public and the horse, and so on. I suspect he'll be banned from the course or courses, anyway.

He was passed fit to ride later in the Winter Derby, so he must've been fine, and the RP quotes him as saying 'the guy hits like a girl'! (Which, if you're the Mr Angry type, rather invites a better attempt next time!)

Obviously, not condoning what happened afterwards but seeing ATR's replay (admitedly head on) it definitely looks as if Fallon makes a move to tighten up The Scorching Wind.

No surprise at Fallon's comments - no doubt wanting to hang on his tag as the 'tough of the weighing room'.

Not sure if all these claims for 'Shadz' is putting her reputation in better light.

I picture a 5ft bruiser, bulging forceps, trawler type hands and a burning fuse measured in nano-seconds, who's previous occupations included a supporting role in the 'Muppet Show'.

All jokes aside, am I the only one who finds it bizarre this thug is only likely to get a ban of between 1 and 12 months? Added to that the fact he has pointedly refused to include Fallon in his list of people he has apologised to?

Surely he should be banned from racecourses for life, and I am at a loss to understand why the police weren't called.

This isn't a view shared by the stewards.

The Stewards noted that EVERYMANFORHIMSELF (IRE) had interfered with ELNA BRIGHT, which then interfered with THE SCORCHING WIND (IRE), all unplaced, approximately five furlongs from the finish, but they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence. They therefore took no further action.

You can see ELNA BRIGHT object to something when he flashes his tail on the bend - maybe that's when he was struck into? He certainly doesn't go forwards after that.

I'd agree with you in that the ban has to be significant. Regardless of what one's view of Keiron Fallon is, this behaviour is outrageous and the punishment needs to reflect that.

The police weren't called because Fallon opted not to press charges, although urged to do so. You can probably imagine he's had a gutful of coppers by now.

I can't see that the BHA have any option to warn him off and for a significant amount of time at the very least. What about all that 'bringing racing into disrepute'? As Hamm says it's not even as though he's shown great amounts of remorse since he eve refuses to apologise to Fallon!
