Has The Racing Post Gone Mad?

OK, now on a forum that is more than 50% about gambling there are people who are saying that not only is the above a good betting medium, but also there is value in taking as short as 15/8 about the a tune from one of those countries.
You don't seem to get it do you, Greece had no chance of losing the Eurovision Song Contest, 15/8 was very good, they were even backed down to odds on, now who would back a 15/8 shot in the Eurovision Song Contest if they didn't know something?

Oh, and they won.

Sorry HT, thought you layed them at 13/8. I backed them at 7/4 but I doubled them with Shelboure because I know better

Brian, all I'm saying is that the betting suggested it was not a very straight contest and there was little point looking too heavily into it. Your average person texting in would not really be politically minded. Your method of selecting will probably get you the right side of the odds 9/10 but the 1/10 is the Eurovision Song Contest.....

No, old son. You are the one who doesn't get it. Let's imagine we are tossing a coin - you offer me 3/1 tails and I take the bet. It comes down heads. Once the coin has settled you have no chance of losing. You won and you have still had a terrible bet!

On the other hand, as I may know feck all about probabilities, perhaps you could advise me? Were the shrewdies who "knew something" and took the 7/4 and 15/8 more or less clever than those who backed Greece at 19/1 on Betfair?

I've only ever played the strip version at school under the bedclothes with some lads who came in via the fire escape. Have to say I didn't win but it was hugely entertaining!
That'll do. Friday 9.00 pm, OK?

There's an element of risk with a coin toss to say the least.

There was not with Greece.

7/4 was a good price, as was 19/1, as could have been 1/10.

It's like travelling back in time and knowing the result of a horse race before it's run, it was that certain.

Gearoid, I did. You'll have to start reading the posts properly.

AliGupter, value at 1/10? That's got to be the worst piece of aftertiming on this forum ever.

HT, I can't work out whether old Ali is just at the wind up...
