One of my best mates is getting married next September. I have been landed with the best man job. One of the dutys is to organise the stag parties..plural. Hes not happy with one.

One of them is 5 of his closest friends heading off on a sun holiday for a week, basically sun and booze is all were after.....:ninja:

Lanzarote has been suggested but im open to other opinions on resorts to go to?? Cheap and chearful is the order of the day, as long as its reasonably clean and there is plenty of craic to be had wel be grand.

Flying out of Dublin or Belfast is fine.

Any suggestions on where or where not to go? Personal experiences?

Any idea who to use to book it with? Travel agent etc..

The weather could be dodgy anywhere this time of year.

Lanzarote (or any of the Canary islands) might not be a bad bet as they're so far south but check out travelsupermarket, teletext, lastminute etc. Or even your local travel agent for special late offers.

In that case take out my first two lines. The rest pertains.

Might even be an idea to check out James Villas but most of those require or recommend a hired car, which would be no good if a lot of boozing is going on.

Without knowing what you really intend to get up to, I'd have a look at Biarritz from personal experience, or San Sebastian from second-hand recommendations. Both easy and cheap to get to, plenty of reasonably priced accomodation for those who only want a place to check their bag is still there the next morning, plenty of life, good eats, golf, sun and beach (in Biarritz anyway). I'm not sure about night clubs or such but they probably exist.

I'd have thought it was obvious: BRIGHTON!

Fly to Gatwick, National Express for peanuts, B&Bs are cheap and cheerful - there's a backpackers' hostel right outside my flat starting at £9 a night for B&B, loads of casinos, night clubs, naughty clubs, about 10 pubs within 100 yards of any given place, the beaches (regular and nudist!), literally hundreds of cafes, bistros and assorted eateries, plus the RACING! Dogs - free on Tuesday and Thursday nights at Hove (about £8 by taxi from in town - not much if shared), and I daresay I could apply for mates' rates for you for the horses - there are six meetings in June/July, so there's absolutely no excuse for you not to attend at least one of them!

There are three or four comedy stores where up-and-coming stand-ups try out (with raucous audiences plied with beer), the fabulous Marina for 10-pin, snooker/pool, swimming, multiscreen cinema, speedboat or fishing boat hire... could you ask for more? The place is heaving with young people having fun - you really would have to be particularly dull not to have a good time here!

Have you decided that you definitely want to go away. If so, a few things to bare in mind.

We are in recession, between the wedding and stag your putting a lot of pressure on people.

Do any of the chosen few have kids they are abandoning to the Mrs for the few days.Divorce proceedings beore the wedding !

By only making the stag accessible to a few you are alienating a good portion of the rest of the male guests .

After that it doesn't really matter where you go as long as it doesn't have a rep for violence, the sun shines and Ryanair fly there so you can get there cheap

None of the lads have children, they all want to go, and its being put down as a lads holiday so as not to offend anyone else. Anyone who wants to go is welcome, but they all are happy to wait for the stag. All the lads know the cost involved and are thinkin they still want to go.

What about Cyprus - you can get some nice apartments/hotels there right on the beach and most towns have a dedicated bar street.

Weather will be perfect too :)

All systems go so !!!:D

I would say get the cash together, the time off work, passports etc and book it the week before you are going. My mate is a travel agent and no books in advance anymore. I booked with last summer. I gave him the cash but he waited a few days before booking and saved me 200.

We dont have a death wish...if the excitement didnt kill us im pretty sure the locals would catch up with us eventually!!

Are they all Monaghan lads, del?

A cultured trip to the big city might do some good... what about Navan?

More seriously I organized my brother's stag do a while back. Went to Berlin (18 of us) and a great time was had by all. Plenty of atmosphere, loads of nice little bars for during the day (no shortage of restaurants either) as well as a few Irish dives. I reckon the nightlife there is better than the likes of Costa and second only to Ibiza (that I've been to anyway), people are friendly (plenty of fine fillies and a few mares as well).

Drink isn't cheap though it's not extortionate either and the city is gorgeous as well. I'd thoroughly recommend...

Holidays to the Costas are cheap and cheerful, as Harry says. Somewhere like Fuengirola is close to the airport (Malaga), lively and cheap with good food and decent beaches. The place isn't really my cup of tea but for a load of lads on a cheap 'n' cheerful stag do it has everything you want - and I've actually had a few decent nights out there myself despite it not really being my scene!

I think San Francisco is gay capital of the world, followed by Bangkok and even Manchester has more than Brighton. For those wanting to stay at a gay hotel, I recommend The Amsterdam: smart, modern, and very good value, overlooking the SeaLife Centre, by the fun pier. And the reason I know it's so nice is that it does a stonking good OAP luncheon once a month - £17 for a choice of three hearty courses and wine, plus either a really good pro keyboardist or drag artiste. Eat your heart out, Milton Keynes! God, there are some feckin' boring places to live, now I think about it!
