Help!

I didn't realise it was pretty harmless I'm afraid Dims. As far as I was concerned it looked like a wasp & the black & yellow colouring made me think it was probably pretty nasty. At least I won't panic if another one flies in!!
 
Now you show a pic of the poor, crushed, innocent little girl, only trying to make a safe, comfortable home for her tiny bairns :cry: :cry: she does look like one of the gega-zillion types of winged beasties we got in Africa, one of which does very cleverly construct a beautiful little nest of small, individually rolled globules of mud. She shapes it into a round, pot-like shape, with a little hole in the top, through which she points her botty and lays the eggs. She then seals up the hole and in due course the wee waspies, free of their paper hatching shrouds, nip away at the top and fly to freedom. Not these, of course, because you've denied them their lovely Mummy, and they will never know the warmth of the

Hmmmm, the forum expert Dims reckons "mummy" was more than likely to be a "daddy" - and it wasn't squashed, more drownded in wasp killer....:lol:

I am far from an expert. :lol: I am very interested in ' wild ' life.

To help take your mind off the 'orrible creepy crawlie, here's one i took earlier of a beauty. Do you get any nice flutterbyes in Gib Shadow?

That's a superb picture Dims - the timing must have had to be crucial!

We do actually get some very pretty flutterbys out here sometimes - they're mainly bright yellow & very striking.
