I'm interested in Josses Hill, Vaniteux, MTOY, Oscar Whisky, Hadrians approach and Captain Conan at current odds.

Bobs Worth

Everything's gone well and he was very good in Ireland in the Lexus. Coming off the back of that it was exactly what we wanted, when we wanted and he's a great character. He hasn't got the greatest constitution, but he tries and tries and tries and he loves what he does. He'd die for you and that's his strength, there's nothing flashy about him. Sprinter is this gorgeous, flashy horse that shows off all the time. Bob just gets on with it and he's very genuine and honest, with talent. And he loves coming up that hill. It is a hard race to win and to do it twice you've got to be at the top of your game for two years and there's always young horses coming along. This year it looks much the same line-up without one or two, but Silviniaco Conti, who fell late last year, was definitely going to be in contention and he was our main danger and will be again. We've got a line on the Irish horses that we've beaten before, but he's the defending champion and he's going to have to fight very very hard to retain his crown. He's in good form.

My Tent Or Yours

He does (compare well to his Champion Hurdlers of the past), favourably. He's got a lot of very natural talent and I think what he has done is learn how to use it better. He's been very good all year, he's won two Grade Ones already in the Fighting Fifth and the Christmas Hurdle and a rather insignificant Flat race the other day that was an important part of his preparation. He was very impressive in the jumpers' bumper, winning in a very quick time and it was what we wanted. So far, touch wood, he's had an uninterrupted preparation. He's got speed, probably more than stamina and some people will say the Newcastles and the Kemptons suit him better than Cheltenham, but I don't think that necessarily. The New One came to challenge him at Kempton and couldn't get by him, he wasn't stopping. I think good ground helps him and very slow ground would be against him. I think if you get good ground he can use his speed, but I'm not worried about stamina, I'm more worried about the other horses. It's going to be a great race and let's hope it's properly run with no incident and it's exciting. He can pull quite hard, and that's why we ran him at Kempton the otjer day on the Flat, just to try and take a little bit of the fizz out of him and that worked really well. Hopefully AP will get him to settle without having to hang out the back. The one thing he can do is travel well throughout a race, and though you've got the hill to fight again - Bobs Worth loves that hill, we don't know that he does - but, I'm hopeful.

Kid Cassidy

Kid Cassidy has stepped up a gear this year and he beat Sire De Grugy at Cheltenham, admittedly getting a fair bit of weight. Having said that it was a very good performance and entitles him to be here. After beating Sire De Grugy, where else can he go? He has to go to the Champion Chase. He hasn't just come in because Sprinter Sacre doesn't go and neither has Captain Conan.

Captain Conan

I think he probably is a two-mile horse. We tried him over two and half, principally last year to try and keep out of Simonsig's way. We haven't run him since the Tingle Creek and he really looked as if he'd come to win the race two out and he didn't get home, but we've had a few issues and things that hopefully we've corrected. Things have gone quite well since then and though he hasn't had a race, he'll have a racecourse gallop over the weekend and if everything goes good then he comes in with a fighting chance. Sire De Grugy is now the horse to beat and this fellow has got the ability to do so.

Riverside Theatre/Hunt Ball

Hunt Ball will run in one of the handicaps, Riverside Theatre won't go to Cheltenham and we'll just have to let the Ryanair go by this year without a runner.

Josses Hill

I think he has (got the required talents for the Supreme). Royal Boy beat him in the Tolworth, but I think he outstayed him that day. I don't think Josses Hill lacks stamina, he won a bumper in Ireland, and he's been very good. I think he's entitled to be one of the protagonists in the Supreme. It looks open and we're sort of watching and wondering in what Willie Mullins is up to. It seems he's got an absolute army of them, but I can only judge my own horses on what we've seen and we just hope that the Irish challenge isn't as strong as it sounds.

Vaniteux

He's one that could be in the mix for the Supreme, he's on the periphery but is blooming at the right time. Originally the thought was to wait another year but he could run.

Royal Boy/Captain Cutter

Royal Boy will go for the Neptune, it's just whether Captain Cutter goes with him or to the Albert Bartlett. They both worked together this morning and that's just because they work well together, not because we wanted to see which one can run faster. JP (McManus) says we can go where we want with Captain Cutter, it's not dependent on anything else, and I suppose I would just prefer the Albert Bartlett at the moment, though that could change if it came up soft.

Grandouet

He was another one who went through a bit of a blip at the end of the winter and he ran a disappointing race last time having run a couple of good ones. There wasn't much between him and Hinterland and those other good horses. He just seems to be bouncing back a little bit at the moment. A bit of good ground and a bit of sunshine and he's in the mix. He was a genuine Champion Hurdle contender last year when he fell and the year before, so he's got the speed and the last couple of times he's jumped very well.

Oscar Whisky

If you'd had a two-and-a half-mile hurdle at previous Festivals, he'd have been odds-on. Because two and a half miles around Cheltenham is what he absolutely loves. We've switched him to fences a little bit later in life than you'd possibly expect but he's jumped very well, he's won twice round Cheltenham already and he finally gets his Festival opportunity over the right trip.

Hadrians Approach

I like him, very much so actually. I think he has a very realistic chance in the Festival Handicap Chase. He's a good, solid horse. He's a good horse. I don't know that he'd be the only one in the race but he'd have as good a chance as any of them.

Triolo d'Alene

His principal objective is the Grand National, but I've got to get a run into him before and I'm getting towards the situation where that will have to be at Cheltenham. If he goes there, let's hope he wins there, he won't get a penalty for the National so that doesn't matter, but it would be as part of a plan for the National, that's his main aim. I don't want to give him too hard a race before Aintree, so he could run in the two and a half mile handicap (Byrne Group Plate).

Long Run

The National is the prime objective and as he won at Kelso last week he doesn't need to go again. At the moment that's the way we're leaning and we'll be giving the Gold Cup a miss. If you're concentrating on the Grand National you don't need three and a quarter miles in the Gold Cup beforehand in a year like this, when it's the short break.

Dawalan

I like his chances in the Fred Winter, he's in good form. I'm pleased with him, he's done everything right, winning his last two at Newbury. It was always the plan (the Fred Winter) so that's where we're going to go.

Royal Irish Hussar/Kentucky Hyden

Royal Irish Hussar would have to have good ground (To run in the JCB Triumph Hurdle), as much as Kentucky Hyden wants very soft ground, so whichever way it goes we'll have one chance in it, but we won't have two chances as one wants it quick and one wants it slow. They'll both probably run, but they will not win if it's on the wrong ground.

Whisper

He'll run in the Coral Cup but unfortunately his Welsh Champion Hurdle second was very expensive exercise in that he got beaten a nose in a £50,000 race, which was unlucky in the respect that he lost the race and it probably cost him the Coral as well, as he got bumped up 6lb for finishing second. It's a very hard race to win anyway but now it's almost impossible for him now he's a fully exposed horse.

Grand Annual Team

It's much the same as last year. French Opera, Anquetta and Tanks For That have all been there before and they'll go there again. Ericht is in there too but I think he'll go for the two-and-a-half-mile novices' handicap (Rewards 4 Racing Novice Handicap Chase) and I think he'd have a very good chance too if it's good ground.

some good news

Sprinter Sacre and Simonsig back in training

BY RODNEY MASTERS 8:55AM 19 AUG 2014

SPRINTER SACRE and Simonsig, the two superstar chasers whose absence through injury scuppered Nicky Henderson's bid for the trainers' championship last season, are back in training and set to hit the racecourse within months.

Henderson said on Monday the pair were making encouraging progress as they inched closer to a return and he laid the foundations for one of the season's most anticipated meetings by revealing Sprinter Sacre was likely to restart his career against Champion Chase winner Sire De Grugy in the Tingle Creek at Sandown.

"Sprinter looks magnificent after his long summer break and everything is A1 with him," Henderson said. "We've tweaked a couple of minor things and he's fine. We've not needed to do tests or anything like that. I imagine he'll start off in the Tingle Creek and suspect he'll be seeing Sire De Grugy there. Then I would think it'll be a similar programme to the winter before last leading up the Cheltenham."

Having carried all before him over fences with ten straight victories and seven consecutive Grade 1s, Sprinter Sacre's serene progress at the top of the two-mile chasing tree came to a juddering halt in the Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton last Christmas when he was pulled up.

An irregular heartbeat was diagnosed, and while the problem did correct itself, Sprinter Sacre's participation at the Cheltenham Festival became one of the more intriguing narratives of the 2013-14 season.

Having been subject to extensive testing, the decision was eventually taken in February that Sprinter Sacre was not considered ready for Cheltenham. In his absence Sire De Grugy wore the mantle of outstanding two-mile chaser, claiming the vacant Queen Mother Champion Chase crown for the Gary Moore team during an imperious season.

Moore recently confirmed the Tingle Creek is also an important target for Sire De Grugy, who underwent surgery to remove bone chips from both ankles in the summer after a lacklustre win in the Celebration Chase at Sandown in April.

Simonsig: will be aimed at the King George VI Chase at Kempton

Last season proved a testing one for Henderson, as he was also robbed of another stable star in Simonsig, who developed a splint on his near-fore. Henderson was unable to retain the trainers' title, with Paul Nicholls returning to the summit.

But Henderson was also able to issue a positive update on the 2013 Arkle winner. He said: "Simonsig looks great and is a little more forward than many of the others because he came back to training that bit earlier."

Simonsig's programme in the first half of the season is likely to be geared towards the William Hill King George VI Chase at Kempton.

And he may not be the sole Seven Barrows representative in the Kempton Grade 1, as Henderson added: "There's also Ma Filleule to be considered for the race, and of course Finian's Rainbow, who is back and looking magnificent."

"Sprinter looks magnificent after his long summer break and everything is A1 with him," Henderson said. "We've tweaked a couple of minor things and he's fine. We've not needed to do tests or anything like that.

Some correspondent!!!

Perhaps he should spend some time actually going to see the horse rather than repeating what Nicky said 2 months ago..........then he might notice the heart monitor SS has been wearing a for months and know he's only been doing light canters.

Can you tell us, if it was said a couple of months ago (mid June) why he would have used the term 'after his long summer break'? It is not possible to use that term about a horse arriving back in mid June.

Wasn't really talking about his long summer break which as far as being roughed off is concerned was probably about 6 weeks in a paddock at Seven Barrows where he could be brought in and checked on a regular basis. What's news about a NH horse having a summer break? I think every Grade 1 horse in the country has one.

Both have been doing great for ages which is common knowledge all the article is doing is repeating what Nicky said about 2 months ago when he spoke to ATR

"That heart situation is perfect. There's nothing there at all. There are a couple of other bits and pieces we're tidying up," Henderson told At The Races"

If you look back my posts you'll find one saying which races the horses are being aimed at and I don't work for the Racing Post.

It stinks of a phone call conversation and I would expect more from a paper with such a following. A few pics perhaps or a video would be nice to let readers/subscribers see what's actually happening.

A bit of a mute point but 10 days ago Nicky Henderson said Sprinter was now back in training but today he said he was back almost a month before That article was written. Amazing how paper never refuses ink LOL The heart monitor has been taken off but you can bet he'll have it back on when he does his first serious bit of work in a couple of weeks time. Fingers crossed he'll come though that without a glitch.

Also good news to hear Nicky say Simonsig is even less of a worry and he expects him to be as good as ever,

He did mention the Schloer Chase in November the race in which Kid Cassidy (RIP) lowered the colours of Sire De Grugy despite the fact the latter had already ran and won 3 weeks earlier at Chepstow.

Mind you he was giving Kid Cassidy 10 lbs and there's also a chance they'd let him down a bit with the Tingle Creek coming up 3 weeks later.

The way I see it, I reckon he was just talking for something to say and it's not a serious option unless he is really firing early November. Sprinter would have to come to himself on his own as there's no way will he be pushed hard to run before the Tingle Creek.

I know it's been a longer break but if the way he was turned out for the Tingle Creek 2012 is any sort of guide and I would question Nicky's sanity if he sent him anywhere "needing it".

Don't forget his ailment was heart related albeit seemingly not serious he's not the type to take the chance of asking him to run when he's not spot on.

If there's the slightest hint he's not Nicky Henderson's record say he will not risk him until he starts showing he can still race trains and beat them :0)

Simonsig - straight to KG or a prep?

Would like to think he'd have maybe two runs. He's miles ahead of Sprinter Sacre fitness wise and they will surely run him at least once to try and teach him to jump better and settle before tackling 3 miles.

He wouldn't want to be jumping left at Kempton against top chasers or making blunders like he did at Cheltenham and Aintree or pulling like a train early doors.

After reading my own post I wish I hadn't backed him AP now

Simonsig possibly not that easy to place before the King George? Can't go for a Graduation as he has won 3 chases, and won't be qualified for the intermediate chase at Sandown that Henderson loves to run one in.

Paddy Power has to come into the equation? Needs to be going close to winning that off 160ish or whatever if he's going to be a King George horse anyway.

I don't know if it does have to actually have to win off 160 though..if they run it undercooked and it gets beat it could still win the KG like Long Run did

True. What I mean is, that race is going to have to come under consideration because it's as good an opportunity as any that he'll get.

If he's as far forward as has been suggested, there's no reason why Simonsig couldn't run in the Charlie Hall. Given the length of time he's been off the track, he might be favoured by the penalty-structure, it's not too much of a jumping test (Ascot stiffer), it would give him a run at the KG trip, and the opposition likely wouldn't be too punitive either. Might be an easier intro, and maybe the Amlin could be used a second prep for Kempton (if they're talking about wanting a couple of runs into him)?

Not much wrong with the Clonmel Oil or the John Durkan either. Plenty of options for these horses, which will be shown by small fields both sides of the Irish sea.

Henderson will still lob his toys out the pram about the lack of options, though.

Thanks for that Granger..........must be great he has so may good horses he gets a new horse in from France and can't remember it's name

You're right actually. Amlin would be a very good prep for KG.

As you probably know if you watched the video Granger put up he's confirmed he definitely will have at least one run. Interesting he indicated 2m4f would be the most likely which might rule out the Charlie Hall 3m1f but Nicky has a habit of thinking on his feet when being interviewed so who knows what he'll decide.

The only problem with the Amlin I can see is what will turn up? 2 runners last year and 4 runners the year before isn't exactly perfect for teaching a horse to settle which seems to be Nicky's main worry and running in a tactical race with no real pace could have the opposite affect.

I'd be very tempted to run him in the Charlie Hall in a true run race, even if he isn't forward enough to win it. He sent Long Run there last season so it may be in the back of his mind for Simonsig

It's usually run at a decent pace and if nothing else they'll have a better chance of settling him and a better idea if he stays 3 miles or not.

Some quotes from his owners day

Sprinter fine and will have racecourse gallop

Simonsig may return in Peterborough before KG

Josses Hill top of chasing prospects.

MTOY to stay over hurdles

vaniteux to stay hurdling

Bobs worth may go in off top weight in Hennessy or else spin over hurdles with Lexus an option.

Beat that disappointingly may stay hurdling
