Ambling round my local Aldi this morning, I noticed with a degree of surprise that a box of Celebrations was reduced to something like £3.85, as low a price as I can recall. However, upon checking the box, I noticed that the nett weight is also down, to just 550g. I'm pretty sure it was 850g/£4 not that many years ago. On a cost per gramme basis, that would put the cost of 850g at £5.95, a 50% increase.

Very cleverly done.

Speaking as someone who is carried by Sedan Chair round Waitrose so I can peruse the latest Lindt chocolate, I have three questions: "What is ambling?" "What is Aldi?" "What are Celebrations?"

PS: I had my first ever deep fried battered mars bar the other day - it was quite possibly the least healthy thing I've ever eaten. I loved it.

I'm aware 'shrinkflation' has been going on for generations.

I've no idea how big a Mars Bar is these days but I do recall when it was 65g.

I sometimes wonder if it's just us that are getting bigger rather than the items getting smaller.

Wagon Wheels, I reckon, were a lot bigger back in the day but the manufacturer apparently insists otherwise.
