A report today that the company that runs Chester and Bangor is interested in taking Hereford over .

If that happens it would be likely to be a much better run track than under the present bunch of property developers .

The BHA has serious questions to answer. Not only did they show that they had apparently connived at these closures as they evidently knew well before the Council and failed to take any steps to protect the courses or seek alternative operators but they have allowed the racecourse operator to take the fixtures elsewhere . I thought protecting racing's heritage was one of the BHA's roles .

This raises a difficult legal question - outside leased BHA fixtures - who do the fixtures belong to the racecourse owners here Hereford Council or the current operators Arena/Northern ? There must be a good argument that they belong to the racecourse and the BHA should not simply have handed them over making it very difficult for Hereford to get any in 2013 even if a new operator comes in .

It looks like the BHA wants to reduce the number of racecourses. That's all very well for all weather racing, where you can race on a track virtually as often as you want, but turf racing needs as many courses as possible so that ground doesn't get overused. Some tracks already have more racing than is good for them.

When you consider the quality of n.h. racing Chepstow had a few years ago and the muck that they are serving up now- you would wonder about long term plans for the course.
I'd say they were on the BBC at least 6 times a year.

Can anyone name a racecourse where Northern as it was or Arena have improved the quality of the racing programme ?

Other than Doncaster the fare at their other tracks is getting worse and worse.

What was their reasoning for moving the Rehearsal Chase from Chepstow to Newcastle a few years back?

Northern Racing !! Destroyed it
Chepstow was bigger than Sandown back in the day....McCoy used to fly in and out.
Chepstow was a grade 1 course....now it's a toilet
