I tend to think that had Paddy let him pop rather than asking for a big one, he probably would have got over it ok. That said, it's a split second decision and probably 7 times out of 10 he'd have gotten away with it. Paddy does have a habit of getting a rush of blood to the head and throwing horses at fences sometimes mind!
I (and quite a few others I have spoken to) am of the opinion that Hobbs Hill would still have won the race had he stood up - they were all travelling much of a muchness and I can't buy the theory he was about to be "swamped".
I just hope he's ok - reports at Kempton Saturday weren't the greatest but from what connections have told the press he was much better the next day.
