We all know that there are people who like to complain about horse racing and if a horse dies they are very vociferous.
Horses fall and die often when they are tiring,so why do jockeys not pull up.
Reading the beaten jockeys comments about their mounts weakening and yet they still kept going.
Escaria ten was 9th beaten 65L
Romain de senam 83L
Samcro 91L
Commodore 109L
Class continues 121 L
Blacklion 154L
Lostintranslation 253L

What's the point of carrying on and risking injury.

Rant over.

You are right. Seriously pisses me off.

Seeing horses tailed off going up and down on the spot still being shoved along and given a 'reminder'.

Jocks making no or useless attempt to catch the horse when falling.

Agree with you totally. Sadly no way to provide any statistics for it but obvious when horses are out on their feet that they should be pulled up.
Remembering the story of Carl Llewellyn and Beau having unseated in a National. CL having caught him, borrowed a mobile phone and phoned NTD and asked how many still going etc and did he want him to remount? ( In the days obviously when it was allowed) . Only 4 were still going and near the end of the race, NTD said up to you if you think he's okay. CL said not going to risk it and walked back with him.
I think stewards should be allowed to call jockeys in and ask them to explain what they were thinking when they keep going for no apparent reason.

I'm not sure if it was the national ,but i remember some jockeys were fined for not pulling up in a race that's why i looked at the stewards report.
.

Stewards will pull a jockey in for continuing on a tired horse when it should have been pulled up. They are very hot on it Pointing as well.
I remember many years ago hearing a story when Tim Jarvis was a jockey (I worked briefly for his father Alan when Tim was assistant there....but that’s another story!) and he was miles behind in a chase at Warwick. Anyway the horse was exhausted yet he kept going and eventually it fell about two out. Cue his very angry father sprinting down the track to be overtaken by one D Nicholson. A Jarvis asked what he was doing to which DN replied “I am going to give your lad a right clip round the ear for not pulling up....!” “Not if I get there first,” replied Alan “I’m going to knock his effing block off!”

Would a jockey on a horse well out the back know how many horses are in front of him and it it’s worth carrying on fir prize money?

In a lot of races I would say yes they would, and how far down the prize money goes, obviously more chance in smaller fields/a lot of 'normal' races.
A certain horse running last year in 5 races punching well above his weight, won over 17k and never finished better than 3rd, and was a distance 3rd when did.

Lots of suggestions for making the GN safer from smaller field size to moving the race to February for softer ground.
Looking at Saturday's field the first horse you would eliminate would have been a seven year old with only one chase win who was found by veterinary examination to be clinically abnormal post race twice this season.
Just Ask Ted , and he would wholeheartedly agree.
