How far would it get you?

Euromillions tonight is something like 120 million. Discussing with the Mrs as you do, fantasising about what you would do with the money.

Id be allowed 20 million to spend on racehorses and own them. How far would it get you? 20 million? Say i wanted to own genuine grade 1 national hunt horses?

Ive honestly no idea.

Another question. Where would you send them? I live in the north, but if I’m spending that amount on horses not sure i could keep them up here. Id probably send them to Ireland.

Random as hell I know, just intriguing. Makes you appreciate Gigginstown and JP all that much more

You would get at least 40.if you live up north then send them to mick easterby,at least you would get a good laugh.
If I won it I would send them to Henry Oliver.3 mile away.if I bought a flat horse it would have to be Mark Loughnane who trains at the top of the road.

I have thought about this for years.
I would have ten flat and ten NH horses, allowing for a few dual purpose types.
A good good sprinter or two essential, you would be guaranteed a run every fortnight all around the World if you wanted, Tom Hogan the man to meet your expectations for travel !
NH horses I would split between Ml Winters and Sam Thomas ( in thanks for his taking time for me when he had no need to), giving Dave Noonan a much needed retainer.
I realise now that Wicklow Brave would have taken me all the places I ever needed to go racing, flat or jumps .
Meanwhile I consider myself more than lucky to have had a share in Apache Gold, probably the most popular 55 rated horse to grace ATR screens.

It has occupied a lot of my thoughts over the years too Eddie. I'd go mostly jumps split between Mullins, Elliott and Meade. Meade makes the list as I can be at his yard in 40 minutes from home. The flat ones would go to Joseph O'Brien, but there would be no sprinters, definitely not. St Leger and Ascot Gold Cup types only.

However the wife shows no enthusiasm for racehorse ownership, regardless of the size of the imaginery lotto win.

Much as I prefer the jumps, I'd probably go for a Flat horse at my age.

With that kind of money I'd maybe try and get somebody to put me in touch with one of the top agents and try and source a potential Triple Crown winner either via Coolmore or Godolphin breeding lines. Juddmonte too maybe.

Once that was sorted I might go for a longer-term project that might start running once the Flat horse was being prolific at stud...

The difficulty would be doing all that without Mrs O knowing anything about it.

I have everything I need in life. I would give it all away or do good works with it. Does anybody know what Lafita's ransom sum stands at?

I'd live in the south west and have jumps horses with Nicholls and Skelton, De Bromhead and Gavin Cromwell

I'd retain a property up here and have some flat horses with Fahy and Kevin Ryan

I'd sponsor some races ,try and pump some of the money back into racing

I'd invest millions into Bitcoin and Ethereum. No point keeping much in banks given the interest rates.

I'd buy BBB back and run him. I'd buy somewhere with some land so I would have somewhere for him and Muppet when they're no longer racing, and adopt a couple of allsorts looking for homes. I'd buy maybe 4/5 young horses and spread them amongst trainers, one with Hendo, Nicholls, Christian Williams, Sam Thomas, Phil Kirby, buy a few more and give them to Warren who has been unbelievably kind and welcoming. In the past dreaming of this kind of money, I thought I would buy mares having financially struggled when I had Molly which is why she only had the 2, but she was the girl love of my life, and it broke my heart to sell BBB so not sure I could cope emotionally as wouldn't want to get rid of them and getting too old to get into a breeding operation. Would seriously help racing/animal charities.

I won £6.20

Many years ago in a syndicate at work of 13, the young lad in the group ran it for us, and got very excited when receiving an alert to say we had won. £5.13. We spent 2 hours deciding how we were going to spend it as obviously didn't want to make any rash decisions!

Buy one or two up and coming NH stallions. In no particular order, Ocovango, Kingston Hill, Telescope or Pether's Moon might work or, slightly older and more proven, Maxios or No Risk At All.

Buy two or three of high standard mares that are still racing, say, Honeysuckle, Hook Up and Concertista.

Check out the November/December mares in foal sales.

Buy half a dozen stores or PtP fillies/mares.

I would work on a 10 year horizon with a horse retirement plan thrown in. The 20m would be split into three buckets (unused money would be invested):

1) 5M for horse purchases.
This would be for 6 horses per year for a total of 1m per year: a Jonbon, a Moscow Flyer and four at 100k each
2) 10m for training and other fees
3) 5m for the purchase of a farm/stud and the employment of two people to look after the horses when not in training and when retired

Investment returns and prizemoney would re re-invested to keep things going

After 10 years, when the money has run out, I would speak to my wife and tell her that racing and my love for her are the only things keeping me going (but “that’s a lot of pressure on you now all my horses are retired”). And then I would start all over again (or get divorced!)
