HRI Horse of The Year

Quevega only runs once a year, Sizing and Fly both missed out on their big targets for the season, and Camelot's season also ended in anti-climax. This leaves Dawn Approach and Excelebration. I'd give it to Dawn Approach myself, he did more racing in Ireland than Excelebration and is unquestionably top of the heap in his sphere.

camelot is a massive price

sure his season ended in anti climax but he won the guineas & derby. puts the rest into the shade on that alone imo.

Camelot did a big favour for Irish racing by running in the Irish Derby.I would make it 6/4 each of 2 -Dawn Approach and Camelot.

I'd forgotten that, it's an important point though, and it makes the 8/1 look too big.

2/9 1.222222222
5/6 2.240740741
1/4 2.800925926
3/10 3.641203704
4/9 5.259516461
2/9 6.428297897
5/6 11.78521281
1/4 14.73151601
3/10 19.15097082
4/9 27.6625134

BEWARE! Paddy Power is taking the pi$$ big time with his Sprinter Sacre Big Bucks to be unbeaten for the season offer at 13/2 which was 14/1 incidentally

Big Bucks ran 5 times last season and is likely to run 5 times this as is Sprinter Sacre. Take Big Buck's starting prices x 2 and the accie works out at over 26/1.

Even assuming instead of starting at 5/6 at the festival they both went of at 2/5 you'd still get 15/1 on your cash.

What's the selection criteria for this?

Whatever about horse of the year, quote of the year is between Peter Casey's post-race antics after Flemenstar at Leopardstown and this Bolger gem after Dawn Approach won the first race of the season:

"I wouldn't be getting carried away with him. Hopefully we will be back here in September with him (for the National Stakes)."

DUAL Derby winner Camelot was named horse of the year at the 10th annual Horse Racing Ireland awards ceremony which took place at Leopardstown racecourse on Monday afternoon.

The Aidan O'Brien-trained colt, who won three Classics in 2012, saw off stiff competition from the likes of Dawn Approach, Excelebration, Hurricane Fly, Quevega and Sizing Europe.

His regular rider Joeseph O'Brien won the Flat award at the ceremony while the jump award went the way of Davy Rusell.

Brian Kavanagh, chief executive of HRI said: "2012 has proved to be another excellent year for Irish trainers and jockeys both at home and abroad, with an impressive tally of eight Irish winners at Royal Ascot and four of the five major races falling to Irish raiders on British Champions Day.

"Cheltenham saw five Irish-trained winners and no less than 12 Irish-trained seconds, Irish jockeys won 22 of the 27 races and Irish-bred horses won 12 races including six of the Grade 1 contests.

"At this year's Melbourne Cup the first seven horses home were Irish-bred. Recognising and rewarding this success is of great importance to Horse Racing Ireland."

Flemenstar's trainer Peter Casey won the outstanding achievement award, the point-to-point award went the way of Colman Sweeney while Moyglare Stud won the contribution to the industry award.

Ballinrobe won the inaugural racecourse of the year award. The award was selected by the Racegoers Consultative Forum based upon the best all-round customer experience.
