Hukum retired

Possibly but as he’s a six year old now, where else do you go with him? He’s not realistically going to improve, he’s come back from a leg injury where he was off nearly a year and he’s won a KG. He’s also an attractive stallion proposition being a brother to Baeed so it makes sense. Sadly he’s off to Japan although maybe we will get to see one of his progeny in the Arc one day.

Being Baaeed's bro might be his saving grace at stud but,in reality he was a boat who only won the KG beause it was attritional, and the form was truly turned on its head in the Arc.

Yes, that all makes sense. And given how good the Japanese horses are there's a fair chance they're seeing lots of potential in him as a stallion.

Real shame not going to be Ascot as would have got softer ground plus I wanted to see him again! Never to be seen or heard of again if going out there :(

I'm of much the same opinion as Jinny. They hit pay dirt when scraping home in a below average Group 1 King George in the 2nd of his only 2 Group 1 wins

Very unlikely to get chances like that against the new crop coming through they got out of there while the going was good, like so may others who weren't quite the best around.

Be forgotten in a couple of years.

It is disingenuos to say he will be forgotten about in two years -that is the nature of the beast when it comes to stallions-very few succeed.Since Teenoso won the Epsom Derby in 1983-how many winners have really made it at stud.
Hukum was a winning 2yo and raced on until he was a 6yo winning at least one race every season and improved every season. He won on the all weather and was a Good traveller being able to win in Dubai.A two time Group 1winning brother to Baeed he is entitled to take his chance at stud.
Who could have predicted what Wind In Her Hair did when she went to Japan.

He will need a bit of luck and that all important big winner early in his stud career. The likes of Frankel and sea the stars were always going to succeed as the best mares went to them. Galileo was by no means a certainty to be a top stallion as he wasn't sent the best mares straight away. I hope he does succeed as I love watching older horses win big races. The likes of teleprompter and falbrav were great to watch. Who knows when a horse reaches its peak. I often wonder how the likes of galileo would have got on as a 4 year old.

Teleprompter -there's a blast from the past.I can remember him being beaten in a Redcar Handicap before progressing to win an Arlington Million.

A friend of the in laws was closely involved with Rock of Gibraltar in bis early days at stud.I can remember him saying Rock by name- Rock by nature and Galileo was too shy to make it as a stallion.

The track pony I used to ride in California was a full brother to Teleprompter. One of the kindest horses I have ever ridden...lacking the sibling ability but a sweetheart all the same.

No sadly not. He was just known as Indy.

Ive got a photo of him somewhere so I will try and dig it out.

That's way too big a word for you Luke

Just to clarify: I was talking from a punters/racegoers point of view, the majority of whom have absolutely no interest in breeding.

If we asked 100 racegoers to name for example 5 sons/daughters of Australia 2014 Derby winner 95 would have no idea and there are 0ver 50 out there.

If it so happens one of his were to win the Arc or something he would get a mention but apart from that.

It simply doesn't matter to people once they are gone they are gone apart from the Nijinsky's and Mill Reef's of the racing world and Hukum ain't one of them

Bit harsh there. Its odds against hukum becoming a top stallion but stranger things have happened. Mehmas has made a great start as has sioux nation neither of whom were top drawer. Be interesting to see how king of Steel gets on at stud. Always hard to predict who will be a success but somehow coolmore and specifically John magnier and mv magnier get it right. Paddington bought for 420k and sending his top fillies to justify plus ones to deep impact. Incredible strike rate.

Yes, and Saddlers Wells was nothing special on the track. Decent but no champion.

Turned out to be a super stallion.

SW -won an Irish 2000Guineas,Eclipse and Phoenix Champion Stakes.Second to horse of the 80's El Gran Senor in the Gladness and a peak form Teenoso at Ascot. He also won a Leopardstown Derby Trial -not a bad 3yo campaign.
I'd say he was a few levels above decent.

I did hesitate about the Ds but couldn't remember which was the right spelling and couldn't be arsed to check :)

I think I have a downer on it cos I don't think I ever caught it when it won!

I recall me and my father leaving a beach to drive to the nearest pub to watch him finish second to Teenoso at Ascot.
