Rival, if that is fact then it is armoury for veggies but I would imagine there being enough meateaters to win the argument even though alternatives could be produced.
I am not a professed veggie but cannot remember the last time I had any red meat and my main diet is based on fruit and veg so would find more sense with the veggie cause.

Well just as I wouldn't accept evidence that the burning of petro-chemicals is good for the environment from say, BP. I also wouldn't accept evidence that meat eating is bad for the environment from say, Morrissey. I shall return tomorrow to have a swatch (with an open mind).

I would imagine that it probably does. Just like the rest of society.
Fair enough. At least you've no delusions as to what you are.

Dom, what's that got to do with anything? I'm not suggesting that the morals of vegitarianism are 'backdateable'. Are you saying that if some disease wiped all non-human, non-plant life off the face of the earth then you'd commit suicide because you'd either starve or be unable to reach your full potential?
That part had nothing to do with the question of whether or not we should all turn vegeterian, it was an aside to Brian's question as to whether or not humans were natural omnivores or not.

Did you know that vegetarians were burnt at the stake during the Spanish Inquisition as it was thought heretical to refuse to kill and eat animals?

Rival, I've seen/read many pieces of evidence of planet earth's suffering. None of them mention this as a factor. Can you direct me to some non-biased evidence of this?
Pastoral farming has been the cause of massive soil erosion throughout the world. One of the main reasons for the destruction of tropical rain forests, with the very great loss of unique plant and animal life, is to make huge beef farms. The stripping of bark by goats in countries such as Ethiopia causes large-scale tree death with consequent soil erosion. Animal farming also involves huge demands for water. This tends further to lower the water table in areas of the world which already have a drop in rainfall due to deforestation, causing further drought and famine.

Spain -Which leads us onto Bullfighting and the killing of another animal for pleasure and which is not classed as vermin.

No as you probably know 221bar1 Derek has been on moderator control . He has been unrestricted today

What do you mean I didn't need to know why ?
Is it top secret....

I said that I suspected it but couldn't justify them, i.e I had not seen anything to justify him being put on mod mode.

Do you think there may be a niche on the net similar to 'Friends Reunited' but for forums instead of schools ?

Keep the thread on topic or it will be closed, if you want to know why something happened pm me or a mod and we will either tell you or not :). Or PM the person involved.

As i have just had a post removed,it would appear that i am still on Moderator Control.

RIVAL: sorry, you've rather forgotten the hundreds of thousands of square miles of land, all over the world, cultivating nothing but endless lines of barley, corn, rice, oats, and wheat! Not a tree in sight, not a bird nesting, and all sprayed with various fungicides, herbicides, and insecticides to make them, er, safe to eat!

I'd also like to direct your attention to the FACT that eating these products in, in terms of human digestion, an evolutionarily recent event. This is why so many people today suffer from bowel disorders, as their systems are in carbohydrate overload. The Asiatic countries may well traditionally eat rice, but it's in small quantities, well mixed with native vegetables, and some fish or fowl, but little meat. Africans enjoy 'sadza' or mealie-meal (maize meal to the health shops), mixed with a little oil, but also a diet of native animals, including rodents. No native peoples eat only a vegetarian diet - the least-known tribes in Africa hunt with bow and arrow or set traps for monkeys, small deer, bush pigs, small mammals, and so on.

Total vegetarianism is a very new construct, digestively speaking, and while I've nothing against it, it is the result of intellectual processing, and nothing to do with what the human digestive system is best fit to do. What it is best fit to do is to process all kinds of foods, with protein taking up a smaller amount in ratio to vegetation and fruits, while legumes, seeds and grains department are slow in gut transit, and are the reason for so many foul emissions (caused by volatile sulphurs). They should not be mixed with proteins, for optimum gut health, since they tend to 'capture' faster-processing foods while they take longer to transit the gut, thus fermenting the other foods unpleasantly (and often unhealthily) until ready for expulsion.

The best form of dietary intake would be to limit meat (because of the fats/cholesterol involved), eat fish (high in Omega-3 oils), a little sea food, fowl of any sort, plenty of raw vegetables and fruits, carbohydrates in the form of cooked and raw root and tuber vegetables, and ELIMINATE wheat from the diet. It is, vegetarians should be aware, entirely unnecessary to human wellbeing and causes or contributes to many allergies and digestive problems.
