I only heard the race and listened to the pundits after itand to be honest I was expectingto say this but II have to agree with Granger and Hawkwing.

Despite Ruby having to wake Hurricane Fly up the horse was responding and hit top gear as he pinged the last. He would have found that bit more than Go Native IMO.

Good comeback! I hope they send Go native over for the Fighting Fifth again.

Well i would watch the race if i were you. We know that gn isnt the hardest finisher but its one helluva a call to bé certain that he would not have at least given hf a hard race there. Hfs waking up was more than a quick slap and frankly what we have seen wouldnt get me backing him for anything going forward. Market and connections expected more imo

hurricane would have prevailed
Carberry on a bridle horse and HF jumped the last

neither of them of interest for the big one in March for me

The Hurricane is back; be in no doubt.
I hope GN has no memory of the fall.
Captain looked great; a credit to the Hartys. Hopefully he slips down a few more lbs in Chase ratings, goes for Mildway of Fleet wearing a red cap with one P Carberry on board and we might have some fun!

Clive old son I had watched the race when I posted.

What I meant was when I heard the comments I expected to see Go Native clearly looking like the winner before falling.

For sure it would have been close but I thought HF was just pulling that bit more out when they jumped the last.

Whether he'd have won or not doesn't really matter.

Go Native on his day is one of the best hurdlers around especially in small fields where he can travel round at his leisure.

He's had 2 prep races and was very fit Hurricane Fly having his first run, has done all the donkey work and played right into his hands and it's very likely he would have still won or at worst beaten very narrowly.

I'd say that's one helluva good come back and anything that takes him on in Ireland between now and the Champion Hurdle in March will have a mountain to climb. He is still one helluva good horse he'd have to be to leave Captain Cee Bee who's been in great form of late 12 lengths behind

Wouldn't back him to win the Champion Hurdle but I think we can expect him to turn up there with a string of 1's to his name.

I often think that you have to give the benefit of the doubt to the horse with first run and HF had first run on GN. A half length down at the last and a 200 yard run-in means you have no room for error at the last. HF clearly jumped it better and I think would have found enough under pressure to hold off GN but it would have been half a length. GN wouldn't have lost much ground in 200 yards.

HF is very effective on soft ground and while its like that, he will be very hard to beat. March is going to be completely different. He's done it once before but can he do it again?

I believe you cannot discount any horse with that number of Grade 1 wins.
To be fair he had one superlative win last season which "bottomed" him so ran flat afterwards. Earlier WPMullins was by his standards abrupt when asked about HF well being.
He seems real happy this season in contrast.
Cantoris knows better than anyone how difficult multi grade1 winners are to defeat!
