Dessie, have I said how terrific you looked in that recent photo? Really fabulous, like a much younger Brad Pitt...

It won't change him, though - he'll still be looking for cheap tyres online and scrabbling around in Threshers for their bin ends at £1.95 a bottle. Far better it goes to someone like me, who'll really enjoy the new lifestyle!

Having money doesn't mean one should just give it away... nothing wrong with maximising the value of every quid.

(And the tyres weren't cheap tyres, they were expensive tyres bought more cheaply than through normal outlets. :))

Having £113m would mean I wouldn't give a flying fart about maximising every quid, dearest, I assure you! The point of money - in my 'umble opinion, and it's getting 'umbler by the month - is to provide an enjoyable quality of life, not something to be preserved in its own right. I love giving it away when I can - even a stray fiver to the Big Ishooo guy to have a decent coffee. There really is no point in dying with loads in the bank!

I don't intend dying with loads in the bank but why buy a Lear jet when you might be able to buy a Lear Jet and a luxury yacht for the same money?

I used to work for a local GP some years ago and bumped into him last week. We had a bit of a natter and a catch up and at some point in the conversation he mentioned that a certain lady had recently died, aged 82.

She was always a pleasant lady but always wore clothes that had seen better days. Never dirty or slovenly, but patched and mended. When her will was published locally she turned out to have been worth over £3 million cash plus real estate, much to everyone's surprise.

I can't help thinking that she had always been saving and scrimping for a rainy day, without realising that the roof was already leaking.

Reminds me of an old Goon Show sketch, where they found Eccles in a coal cellar. Apparently he didn't let go of the sack and when asked why, he replied "They said they were giving me the sack!"
