Hi,

I am a keen horse racing fan and my favourite horse was Istabraq and I saw it get beaten by Pridwell at Aintree.:eek2:

I run a UK horse racinng systems website and write books on this.

Living in Gibraltar I am in my 60's.

Thanks.

As long as it has nothing to do with marketing or poaching membership :D

+ ofc a post purely for the sake of getting a link/unlinked citation for SEO purposes will be a little seethrough, though the fact you asked in advance gives some credit.

But it's a horse racing forum, so you should be able to post anything horse racing-related that gives readers/members potential value while also not overtly or surreptitiously trying to extract £/$/€s from their wallet (as Bryan eloquently stated).

Welcome btw

Hi

I'm new to this forum.

I actually haven't got the remotest interest in racing, but I did drive past a racecourse once (I was lost).

Anyway, is it ok to mention my website?

OddsToAnAyrtonSenna it offers exciting tips with your only obligation being to stick £10 on for us.

We definitely don't pick small field races and tip a different runner to each subscriber to guarantee someone excitedly sending us cash after the race in hope of further winners.

All joking aside, what puzzles me is that the frankly numerous newbies with a product to sell all give themselves away almost instantly.

If I wanted to hawk something, I'd join, integrate, get a forum persona, have banter, put up horses, then, on the back of a decent winner a few months in, say: "Hey, everyone - guess what? I'm gonna start selling this, message me if interested," then carry on as before with my product as my permanent signature.

But the shysters probably couldn't put up a decent winner to save their lives and also have no patience.

And you'll notice that once MisterB gives them the knock back, they're never sighted again.

So, sorry, Saint Walsey, it's guilty until proven innocent on this one with Your Favourite Uncle Smart Arse! 😂

ofc all this may have intimidated mhorro, who may well be/have been straight up. I'd probably (in the same position) have been thinking 'fvck me, this lot are a little on the aggressive side'

I do agree, many posts of this type spell selling (or as I pointed out...for visibility/SEO purposes).

In this case, assuming it is the real mhorro (don't be fooled by the ID, it's an 'English' name with a long(ish) forum history behind it), then the term 'inappropriate snap judgment' may well apply.

Tbh, I don't see anyone being aggressive - I was just taking the piss and from me it was all a general comment about newbies who start mentioning products from the get-go.

If anyone is genuine, they can soon disabuse any cynics by getting involved and posting.

@Michael Over to you.

A suggested response might be something along the lines of "yeah sorry everyone, I can see how that might have come across, and recognize it's probably happened before (hence the piss-taking and apparent cynicism).

But I am indeed 'straight up' and hope to add value to the forum. My site is 'xyz', hopefully you can see it's a labour of love/potentially valuable tool/full of interesting thoughts and approaches (delete as applicable)"

But, ofc, you do you :-)

Or simply post something about this week's racing on the threads, or start one, and generally start getting involved.

That'll soon shut up cynics like that awful Ian Davies and anything that silences Ian Davies, even if it's only briefly, is sure to win you instant forum popularity - its a win-win! 😂

Mint choc chip ice cream usually buys you 5 minutes of silence.

I had a similar discussion l a few years back on a forum where the admins were far too suspicious of potential members. I won’t mention the name but it is one with a three tier system of membership. I eventually was banned from there for disagreeing with one particularly unpleasant admin.

How could anyone ban Walsworth from anywhere?

He's one of the least offensive people I've ever encountered online!

Barking mad, more left wing than Lenin, and loves taking the mickey out of me, granted, but banning Walsey is like banning a Teletubbie off children's BBC, there are some things you just don't do! 😂

Hi mhorro,

Very similar story here! Keen horse racing form fan and been data driven for a very long time now! Run a horse racing data and statistics website and write blogs too.

Here to read up on some very useful insights and to also... "post anything horse racing-related that gives readers/members potential value while also not overtly or surreptitiously trying to extract £/$/€s from their wallet" (as Bryan eloquently stated)

Live in Manchester. 35-45 age range to keep it vague enough. Might be on the extreme end of the range but high or low?

"Might be on the extreme end of the range but high or low?"

I'd say you were on the youthful side compared to several (possibly many) of us!

Nice-enough looking site, btw, on first glance through. If you need any (free) advice/thoughts on structure/SEO, drop me a line at any point.

Haha yeah, still on the youthful side! Though lot of experience from Dad's Army (as pawras states) on this forum to take in!
Cheers for the feedback, will drop you a dm for sure! Any advice always welcome!
