Why are there no water jumps on Irish racecourses ?

Incidentally I happen to think we'd be better off without them too

A google search comes up with an extract from a book about Arkle by Anne Holland which says Prince Regent's first run in England at Wetherby was in order to familiarise him with water jumps, because they were almost never used in Ireland apart from a period in the late 40s and early 50s at Leopardstown.

There is also support in 2008 from Jonjo O'Neill, Paul Nicholls and Nigel Twiston-Davies in 2008 to get rid of them from UK courses:

They charge for water over here now you see

Very droll - Maybe Paul Murphy and Richard Boyd Barrett could align with Willie Mullins and Dermot Weld to protest this draconian absence of water. The New Land League could chip in.
