I Have Been Reflecting On Chicken.

It won't be turning this person into a vegetarian Kirsty - I can promise you that much!! I'd be interested to see if they foray into the subject of halal meat too; now that is cruel, but naturally it would be too un-politically correct for anyone to dare to question it.

It's like most things in life - there are right and wrong ways to do things. Usually doing it 'right' means putting more time and effort into whatever and these days, that just isn't considered to be a valid reason - time costs money.

A good, modern abattoir is only as good as the staff running it and because of the extreme levels of bureacracy resulting in incredibly high running costs, labour costs are one of the first areas to be cut.

Pay peanuts and you get monkeys.

Weirdly, I would actually like to have the capital to purchase and run an abattoir, just so that I could at least ensure that mine did the job properly, making the individual animal's deaths as quick, humane and pain-free as possible.

You may as well throw in the Jews' kosher meat, Dom, if you're going to take on religious edicts about the slaughter and preparation of animals.

And then what about certain African tribes who just take the blood direct from the neck veins of live cows, to boil up with maize meal? Their cattle's too precious to kill, unless it's for some paramount chief's 50th wedding, so they're vampirized instead. The animal goes on living, but I can't see that practice passing the RSPCA's inspection team!
