It is I think common and accepted knowledge that Margaret Thatcher promoted chiselled, otherwise seriously wanting gents to her cabinet because they were chiselled: John Moore and Cecil Parkinson for example

'Norman Baker' is a deeply boring, even risible name and he is not, with the best will in the world, a ladies' man

But intellectually and morally he's long struck me as one of the Lib-Dems' leading lights

So, had he been 'andsome would he have still been employed in The Home Office?

Regarding Thatcher, the look of the fountain head would seem to be a haggard, eccentric old shop keeper. :)
