I have a friend who went to do some IT contract work in Papua New Guinea. There he fell in with a bunch of Aussies who roped him into becoming a part owner of a filly named Illinois Girl, trained near Melbourne. Up to this point I don't think my man had ever been to the races more than once or twice in his entire life.

It turns out that this filly is rather decent. After winning a few country races she went to Flemington on Melbourne Cup day and won one of the supporting races. She goes again tomorrow in a Gr2 race on the final day of the carnival. While it's a big step in class for her, it seems she has a live chance.

I hope this story was not put up to make certain people jealous, Grey? :suspect:

Seriously, I hope Illiois Girl does your friend proud tomorrow!

it makes me jealous too

but seriously, great story, Grey, so which of the gentleman mentioned in the article is your friend? and were is papua new guineas :D nice "supporting race" as well, wouldn´t mind winning a 100,000grand Handicap !

Good luck to all invovled!

Please stop it immediately. Please bear in mind this forum is not for boasting, bragging or sharing information about horses we know, own outright or own a nostril hair in or know somebody that knows somebody that owns a all or part of a racehorse. As for discussing jockeys you may have met ....also a definite no-no!

By the way, I'm jealous too! :)

Not bad for a first go at ownership!

I see she's already won $84,000AUS, clearly more to come.

Only 12th yesterday, I haven't heard any other details. To judge from the SPs of the first three, 50/1 60/1 and 66/1 respectively, it was a pretty strange race!
