Incompetent And Seen To Be Incompetent

Cross-examination is a very powerful tool at exposing mistaken witnesses . If your experience of advocacy is limited to watching the TV you might think it is all I put it to you bollocks . It isn't - the art is teasing away at inconsitency and belief in your own story with a mistaken witness - something some stupid machine going BEEP can't do
In other words justice is decided by who has the most competent lawyer. What makes you think a polygraph expert couldn't ask equally searching questions?

Are they meant to replace or supplement the polygraph ? Whatever such machines are unreliable blunt instruments and likely to lead to a shedload of miscarriages of justice mainly of the vulnerable .

It's the vulnerable who are the main sufferers under the current system. The career criminals know how to play the system and the rich (who are often career criminals themselves) are able to afford the sharp lawyers who can exploit any weaknesses in the characters of witnesses etc.
