So sad to see that Howard Johnson's opinion of racing fans is so low that he thinks Inglis Drever would be booed off the course if failing to win or pulling up if tried again in the World Hurdle.

Istabraq was cheered when pulling up, iirc.

It would be great to see a fully-restored Inglis Drever defending his crown, but if there is the slightest doubt about his soundness and well-being, I wish him a long and contented retirement.

I think he meant that he, himself 'howard johnson' would be booed off the course if he ran Inglis Drever and the horse had to be pulled up.

He certainly wouldn't be booed off the course but I don't think he'd get a cheer ala Istabraq either. Isty was one in a million :)

Hope they retire ID as would personally hate to see him pulled up at Cheltenham or tailed off etc.

Good news - looks healed and returns to light training . So 4 could still be on . If by some amazing chance it were to happen - the roof would come off !

Good news indeed, though the article is slightly misleading in that he isn't actually going into 'light' training (at least what I would consider 'light' training) for another two or three weeks according to Johnson.

Long road back, but fingers crossed!

But that would leave only six weeks at most to get him ready for the most demanding stayers's hurdle race in the calendar! Tough - if not impossible to get him race fit for mid March

I wonder if we may not see him til 2010! He doesn't likek Aintree at all

I posted on FF just after he injured himself that the injury wasn't that bad and most of the staff reckoned he would easily race again. It was just down to Howard, probably if it wasn't such a top horse as Drever there wouldn't be a doubt about it running again. But he is Howards pet (never thought I would ever hear myself say that about JHJ!!!) I still reckon they'll go to Cheltenham once more, ok there is only 6 weeks but he was race fit before he had box rest and its much easier to get them fit again rather than if he was starting from scratch. If he can't get him fit up that hill then he never will.

Fantastic horse. Good to see they're not taking any chances and he goes out at the top.

Definitely the right decision. I'm relieved, would have hated as we all would to see him finish down the field. Thanks for the memories!

good decision, if he had run and broken down in a race that would have been awful hope he has a long and comfortable life.

For me one race too late ..
Thanks for so many great moments on the racecourse -
happy retirement lovely Inglis Drever!

endevour269 good decision, if he had run and broken down in a race that would have been awful hope he has a long and comfortable life.

Absolutely to both.

What a terrific horse..The odd flat spot during a race just added to the excitement and joy of watching the Drever in action. Have a good break fella:<3:
