Before he is completely forgotten amongst the headlines of Denman and Harchibald I thought I would mention ID....great come back today and he looks as good as ever. A clash with Witchta Lineman over three miles should be interesting.
 
Yep, great to see him back. He goes so well at Cheltenham that it's hard to see who's going to be able to put up a strong challenge - at least until Hardy has proved himself a stayer.
 
Very good solid performance today.

Dissapointed with Kasbah, but the winner looks the one to beat in March again.


What a pity Mighty Man is not still running.


About the rest of the field
Blazing Bailey much better today than last time nd could be the rival in March.

Special Envoy confirmed the form of last week, what an unlucky horse with the handiccaper.

On the Fighting Fifth thread you said no placed horses for Cheltenham were in that race [I find it hard to believe that an on song Harchibald could be any worse than second but that's a different story]

Just wondering....who do you think will be placed in the Champion then,

Or...in the context of this thread....should Hardy go for the Stayers or stick with the Champion?
 
I think Ebaziyan can be interesting in March in good ground.

I think he is too old and does not have the speed for the champion Hdl but I can not see him beating ID in the World Hdl.
 
Some performance by Inglis Drever today. I thought Kasbah Bliss would run better, travelled well enough, didnt really pick up.

On what form do either Afsoun or Straw Bear have any right to finish ahead of Harchibald?

If Harchibald is back to his best, and he certainly looked it today, neither of those two could live with him.. he'd thump Jazz Messenger as well for that matter..

I was surprised to see him perform today so well but he is ten pounds worse than he was then.
 
Harchibald is surely an impossible horse to rate like that Suny? Granted his win today wasnt as good as other victories but he is that type of horse. Because of the way he is ridden he is only ever going to beat the opposition by a couple of lenghts at most. He travelled and jumped as good as usual. Still a young horse.
 
I thought 2/1 was a very generous price for ID today and IMO shows that even now he is still underrated.
 
Harchibald oozed class today, and i can say that after watching a monitor in the Tote hall at Newbury

Inlgles Drever oozed class coming in down the straight, he put no effort into that - OK he might not have had to stretch himself but what is there to stretch him? Blazing Bailey jumped very sketchily today and was lucky to stay upright. All down the straight each hurdle he took there was a collective Whooeeheew!

Interestingly I had a conversation with - well more of a lecture from! - a forumite today, about the best shape for a hurdler... and I observed later that Ingles D fits the template exactly: long and low with sturdy legs
 
Had Blazing Bailey jumped better I thought he might have been able to nick it. Don't think the other jockeys covered themselves in glory letting a known good horse like him such a start.
 
It's strange that people are only just starting to come around to the idea that Inglis Drever is a machine! The horse has now won 2 Stayers' Hurdles, 3 [Newbury] Long Distance Hurdles, a [Haydock] Champion Hurdle Trial, a Kingwell Hurdle, a West Yorkshire Hurdle and 2 Grade 2 novice hurdles. He must be one of the most consistent and honest horses in training. The fact that you could get 2/1 on him yesterday was an insult, a very, very pleasant one mind!
 
i've always thought he was a good horse. i really begun to think that when he beat the great baracouda in the stayers hurdle.
 
One of my favourite horses, I remember thinking he would win the Champion Hurdle in 2005 but he went to the World Hurdle instead and absolutely mullered them at about 7/1 I think, superb horse.
 
I remember saying he had no chance in the Champion and desperately wanted him to go for the Stayers...I was right.

But that was also the year of Back In Front.... :shy:

As much as I loathe to have a "favourite horse in training" Drever would be it. Well, aside from one other dinosaur yet to be seen in public that is!!
 
At his best there aren't any staying hurdlers around at the moment who could beat Inglis Drever, but he's never been a horse to take a short price about for me and although in the past he seemed to have to be scrubbed along from a long way out but eventually got the job done, at Aintree last year he just looked thoroughly disinterested and I had reservations over him after that. If he is at his best in March he will be very hard to beat, Kasbah Bliss will be closer on better ground and Hardy Eustace is obviously interesting, but cleary ID is the one to beat. Wouldn't be taking 2/1 at this stage though, especially for a horse who has had his problems in the past.
 
i think for me hardy eustace is very interesting as he has won over 2m 5f i think if i'm correct? the only issue is i think he has missed the boat for the staying prize
 
Drever is absolutely the type of horse who is worth taking short prices about as he is so honest, consistent, talented and game! He always hits a flat spot in his races but that isn't a sign that he is disinterested or not to be trusted ~ in fact the opposite is probably true!! I've been told there were reasons he was beaten at Liverpool (not least because the track doesn't play to his strengths as much as tracks like Cheltenham or Newbury and he was up against a horse who exceleld at Liverpool - Mighty Man) which would probably have more to do with the length of time he was paraded for before the race, which was excessive.
 
Inglis Drever is a very good horse, and last Saturday looked at his best but I dont think he is as good as Mighty Man was at his his best.

Iris Gift, Baracouda, Bannow Bay or Limestone Lad would beat him also at their best.
 
That inevitable flat spot is going to have to come at the right time at the top level to continue to be successful. If he hits it when something else is turning the screw then it could be all over.

No knocking his record though.
