I've just received an alarmed e-mail in huge bright red type alerting me to 'the most destructive virus ever' called "Invitation". When you open the e-mail, it shows an Olympic torch which then burns the p.c.'s CD or whatever viruses do. Anyway, before I infest my addressbook with replicant alerts, does anyone know if this is really a threat (no date was given as to when it was supposedly discovered) or another waste of space? Thanks.

Havent a clue Kri, i generally Just Trash all emails i get that i dont know who they are from, or if they have a topic title that im suspicious off. E.G. One i got the other day, "someone are you?"

Someone i am, yes indeed, well observed, but the element of doubt you have displayed with the inclusion of a question mark has led me to deduce that you are in fact a complete idiot, and i wont be opening your mail. (So if anyone is mailing me, title it something i might open..... norty )

Well, this is a well-meaning colleague I work with at Lingfield, but he does send me the odd rather hysterical (as in hysteria, rather than riotously funny - although he sends those, too) e-mail. They seem to originate mostly from the US, so I hope that by the time they get here, my Norton Bactericide will have fritzed the little buggers. I just hate getting these ALERT!! THIS IS NOT A HOAX! crap things from pals - I know they mean well, but what's one's anti-virus for?

Yeah i know what you mean alright. People should just say what they got to say and let you make up your own mind. I feel more wary about something marked, "not a hoax", than i do about ordinary mail.

Grrrrrrrrrrr!! He's going to feel such a twerp now! Thanks a mill, Gareth. I'll keep that link on tap so I can logon and see what's what next time I get this earnest, hysterical squeals. Gracias!

Er, only my own, miss. Wot people have sent me. Gareth, thanks for t'other site, too. I've sent off the snopes one to my colleague and got the reply "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" back!
