41 entered up for Sunday. No odds out yet. The Petingo form will be popular and Shackelton is the obvious interesting entry. With the amount of entries from just a few trainers - 11 for Joseph, doesn't look like many will miss out. I'm sure if that's the case a certain horse in the green and gold off 82 would be very popular too. Would be interesting to see what people think as its always a fun betting heat.

It rarely works. Increasing money in most things in the world, racings no different, just amplifies existing strongholds further in a loop.

The prices are out and I get it, the two 3 year olds from the Petingo are topping it, deservedly, but as long as one of the top weights stay in, Wayne's not going to be doing 8-3 on it, it'll be Cleary. Think at 14/1 I'd give Shackleton a go hoping Wayne will go with it

A €600k handicap on the flat, one of the richest in Europe I believe, if not the richest, and only two entries from GB and none from further afield. It’s hard to understand.

When the winnings of that goes to the same people every year it ends up with the scenario they run their 40th string buried in the Irish derby which is getting a 3yr old weight allowance, they probably just feel it's a waste of time. You can give it a workable mark to target HIT sales, sell them abroad, try pick up a handier pot. The English version will probably only include a handful of the Mullins horses and a handful more Irish. Money often isn't the solution or an incentive people think it is in these races and give them opposite results they expect - less competitiveness and more horses leaving the country

I think Aidan said last year everyone has a chance which made me laugh. It's just another big pot for the lads.

17 entries for the O'Brien family, six for Willie Mullins, one for Emmet Mullins - then there's the other 17.

I can safely wait until the final declarations are made at the very least.

Decs out and Wayne on Shackleton so happy enough with my bet. Aidan still holds the cards on whether the 3yr old runs. Putyourhandstogether 2nd reserve and connections again can get him in off 82 if they wish. Few interesting 3yr olds from the Petingo sure to be prominent in the market too

I did Putyourhandstogether in the hcap hurdle 2nd on Wednesday and if you add 45 to the flat rating against its jumps rating it would seem to have a stone in hand.
Just needs Joseph to take 1 out plus the first reserve to get it in.
I've taken 20/1
Drawn 30 don't know if that is a disadvantage or not.

Also like Nurburgring

Sea of sands 25/1 hasn't run on the flat since last year's British cesarewitch in which it was favourite. It faded 1 out and this is shorter.i like the booking of Nicola Burns (7)

Queenstown 25/1 3rd in the ebor and was just behind or in front of sea of sands in last year's cesarewitch. Also weakened last furlong.

2 25/1s from Aiden and Willie can't be bad.

I still hope Putyourhandstogether runs.

Putyourhandstogether would have stamina to prove in a 2m1f Flat race for me (getting the trip over hurdles ain't the same) but I doubt he'd be the price he is now if he got in plus the only way that will happen might be if his owner took others out and that would be a tip in itself.

Money back if a reserve is a NR so could be a risk-free bet on a possible shortener.

I'll look again once the reserve/NR thing has been resolved.

Yes I agree.

My two cents worth.

There's a fair bit of dead wood in this race, especially towards the top of the handicap.

The English raider Minstrel Knight has shown a bit of talent and races with a lovely racing weight for a stayers contest of this nature.

His owners are called 'gaelic bloodstock' which makes one think there's an Irish link there, which might explain him running in this race. There's soft in the going description which should be helpful. He ran his best races towards the end of last season so that bodes well too.

Is 66/1 a big each way price? I think so.

And reserve Light As Air out, so I'm guessing Intellotto and Putyourhandstogether get in?

Anyway my Irish "Cesfolio" is Putyourhandstogether and Dawn Rising on the extended each-way via an infirm Octogenarian "Leafy" "Beard."

Getting in the extended places will be the easy bit - getting paid out, without first having to attend a funeral, then go through Probate, may prove the more difficult aspect of this particular endeavour.

Looking forward to the race - many thanks to Thomas for starting a thread about it.

It's not a "Big Race" thread without some Pawras stats on it - it's the ultimate TH endorsement, rivalled only by a Maurice spreadsheet!
