Irish Sunday Racing Thread

Really good Beginners' on Navan on Saturday (sorry Slim) and Hills have opened thusly:
Kopeck de Mee 15/8
Wingmen 2/1
Slade Steel 5s

I think the Elliott horse was a tad flattered in Final Demand's romp and some of Slade Steel's runs last year whilst not great for a Supreme winner don't look terrible formwise.
 
I'm De Bromhead heavy today. Inthepocket was a short price for the 2.17 at Navan after decs but he's drifted to 5 on the machine this morning and that's too big for a 150+ chaser who is off 149 today and who's hurdling form was better over further than two miles.

Despite two five-runner Pattern events on the card there's enough declared horses at Cork tomorrow to populate between two and three UK meetings.

I had been considering a virtual visit tomorrow, but tbh my online surfing left me more Dazed And Confused than a Led Zepplin Classic.

I clicked on a link marked "Cork Street Food" and there wasn't any (hardly surprising in December tbf).

There were just restaurants and I won't go in those because it traps me with other people and restaurants seem to think they can charge a premium because of things like chairs and a roof.

Street food is perfect for not spending much and legging it to get Far From The Madding Crowd to eat what you've bought.

There was also an "English market" - wtaf?

Why would I want to go to Ireland and then attend something I can access back home any time I like?

Reminds me of Brits going into McDonalds on the Champs Elysees in Paris, an offence frankly worthy of a lengthy custodial sentence in The Bastille.

Plus I don't drink.

So, on balance, it's best all round if I stay at home - even virtually.

It's a very interesting card tbf and I'm looking forward to watching it.

It was alled the English Market so the prods wouldn't get mixed up with the Irish market. All part of the 800 years of oppression from you bastards.

I think it's important to point out at this particular juncture that we're not all descended from Oliver Cromwell.

I'm not much of a traveller and I've never actually been to Ireland.

I do, however, pretend to be Irish during that race meeting in March we've all signed a blood pact not to talk about until the week before it.

I hope you have an outstanding day at Cork racecourse tomorrow and I look forward to reading any material you might put on this splendid thread in the course of proceedings.

I don't doubt your judgement, Luke, and thank you for the recommendation.

Sadly, however, I'm so excruciatingly-tight with money I'd no more incur travel costs to pay someone to cook me a breakfast I could cook myself at home to my exact taste than give back yesterday's profits by betting on a minefield 24-runner 2m4f Cork Handicap Hurdle.

That said, I've taken a look at the 12.00!

Someone I respect told me juvenile hurdlers have a terrible record in handicap hurdles before April but, even so, if Reserve In The Minus got in, I don't think he'd be the prices (admittedly to buttons) I've seen on the machine - it's that same syndrome I talked about before the Irish "Ces."

The other trio I consider capable of making the frame are: Maxicourt, Happy Dreams and the veteran Halsafari.

I think I can see where Slim is coming from with his beast too, and I look forward to this paragon of integrity (not that British racing is any better) contest at High Noon!
