I had a phone call this morning from the Hilton Hotel from Park Lane in London, they stated that they are setting up a new club called the PLATINUM CLUB which so far exists of around 500 pro footballers and they are now looking to add people from the racing world, which he added as I was well known in the racing world and a top jockey,  would I like to join. The deal is,

50% discount on any Hilton Hotel in the world and that would include free flights,
50% discount on the Hilton Hotel in London and if staying for one night then I would get another free
Anytime im in London and fancied dinner a free meal at The Hilton Hotel would be provided if I show my PLATINUM CARD,
And also on my birthday if I wanted a party they would let me invite 100 free guests to the Hilton in London where all the alcohol would be free, but the only snitch being that as it is open to all Platinum members there could be other sports stars there on the night,

All this is only £150 plus vat per year.

Now this sounds too good to me and I hounded the guy,who said that they couldnt send me anything about it untill I gave them my credit card details and signed up, But after talking some more he gave me a number for the actual Hilton Hotel in London and said to check with reception about this offer if I didnt believe him, now I aint rung them yet but just wondered what everyone on here thought about this offer.

I hope that's not a serious question Fudge.

Strange coincidence this. I am a member of the said club and spent Sunday afternoon and night at The Hilton Park Lane. I had a joint birthday party with my two daughters and their husbands. It was my first use of my card but we enjoyed free bottles of champagne and three bottles of house red(decent stuff). A birthday cake was thrown in and my partner and I stayed for a comlimentary nights accommodation. The lunch for six was £148 net. and was of a standard you would expect from a decent hotel. No scam I can assure you. For people who use this type of hotel for work purposes I would imagine it would be very cost effective to join the club. I have more details for anyone whose interested.

Fudge, if you did phone the Hilton Hotel reception, they will know about a "Platinum Card" scheme, BUT it is nothing to do with what that chap was trying to sell you. It appears to be some deal with American Express or with other credit card companies.

Sorry to say this, but it sounds like an utter scam, and I am only too pleased that you saw straight through his rather stupid selling tactics.

Follow this link for more info. I think this is what they were pretending to be involved with.

Have I got this right, Diver:

You got lunch for six, free bottles (how many?) of champagne (real and not some substitute often referred to as "bubbly"), three botles of red wine, a birthday cake and an overnight stay all for £148? (Plus, presumably, your membership fee.)

How may offers can you avail yourself of in the course of a year?

It sounds like very good value. Tell us more.

D O
Back end of last year I joined The Hilton Premium Club (Hilton Park Lane) for an annual fee of £150. Sunday was my first chance to use it.
Free glass of champagne for me and the ball and chain on arrival.
We also had a free bottle of the same champagne with lunch along with three bottles of decent red wine.(half a bottle per diner).
My signicant other and I had a comlimentary nights accommodation at Park Lane.
The lunch was a help yourself -type (lots of staff around pouring wine, coffee etc) with outstanding starters(I had a sea food platter that some forum members would have trouble carrying, never mind eating) carvery main course and an exquisite choice of puddings - some quite exotic ones - and as many as you wanted. The bill for five lunches (mine was free)was £148, but don't get carried away and think you get all that every trip.
After that introductory visit the offer is accommodation at half price, food at half price if there are two of you. The dining card can be used across European Hilton Hotels and that's for as many trips as you wish.
Iam currently arranging a free air flight to Paris for me (£75 for partner), half price accommodation and food at the Hilton Paris.(another intro offer)
It has no connection whatever with the credit card mentioned above. I spoke at length to someone at the Hilton prior to parting with my money and after Sunday I am perfectly satisfied. My daughters thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.
I can only speak as I find and I think it's a deal that will suit some people.

That's an amazing deal. I can't get out of paying less than around £40 for a decent lunch (inc drinkies) for ONE at most of Brighton's bistros, let alone a Park Lane hotel.

It's all about Blair's new deal and get them back to work ethic.

I am glad that Diver has decided to avail himself of it. :D

So it aint a scam, thats good i might join myself then, the guy on the phone also mentioned a few jockeys that had signed up and i said that i was real friendly with one of them and would ask him what he said about it, the guy on the phone said he signed up yesterday and yes go ahead ask them, which again makes it sound pretty real. B)

Fudge,
The number I use for my PPREMIER CLUB membership is 0207 493 8000 and ask for Premium Office. PLATINUM CLUB may well be a scam that is meant to sound like the real thing.Ringing the above number, especially if it is the same one you have, will clear the situation one way or the other.

Cheers Diver, the guy has tried to ring me about 5 times today which is a pain in the arse but i think i will leave it as i cant see when i would ever make use of the deals etc.

Fudge - why is this person pushing this so aggressively? Does his phone number match with the one Diver's given you? Have you checked to see who his number is registered to? I wouldn't part with 5p or give ANY details - if it's such a bonzer idea, get him to mail the details to you first. Do NOT give any card details!!

Yes the phone number does match Divers and all the info does seem genuine from speaking to a couple of jockeys i know who say a few of them have had the same phone call, but im not taking up the offer just for the fact that he wouldnt send any info before i had to pay. Im not sure why he was so persistant but was also asking me if i did know anyone else who might like to join and that if i ever need anything get in touch. It does all seem strange to me but oh well.

That's true if he's employed, and not just a scamming thief, Brian. But unless you check him, it's as well to tie up any loose ends and make sure he IS a commission-hungry caller and not yet another bastad out to fleece the less cynical among us, isn't it? God knows there are enough of those being shown up all the time! Anyway, fudge, sounds like you've done all the right things and will keep your money for winning punts instead! :D

He works for the card company that supplied Diver - Fudge has checked it out. These guys are often on very low, or nil, basic and high commission rates.

It's hard work on here, sometimes. Yes, dear Brian, I had realized that fudge HAD checked it all out by the time I finished reading his last posting. All I'm saying is that I'm glad he did, because blah, blah, blah.

Fudge
I can send you copies of the stuff - and I don't want any card details from you. That number is actually the Hilton at Park Lane and the Premium Club have an office there. It is obviously the same as mine and as I have already said it will work for some.
Get in touch and I will send it to you.
