There is no better way to start a meal than with half a dozen native oysters
How about half a dozen native Tahitian women?

I'm not surprised you don't remember the food, Ardross. Five bottles of Chablis was going it a bit for one person, I thought. <_<

Kathy - oh no! What have I started? :o Here's a giggle: a chumette of mine, same height or taller, used to be the same size as me, but is now a size 12/14. When I visited her last week, she plied me with cast-offs from her chubster days, including what I thought was a rather elegant, long, floaty georgette overshirt, one of those things which floats to ankle-length, and has split sides. I expect you know what I mean! Ooh, I thought, lovely for evening. So I popped it on and modelled it for the ancient Mater, giving it a good swirl to show it off. "So, what do you think?" I asked brightly. After a long look, she replied: "I think it looks like a fat woman trying to look slim!"

Krizon, take no notice. She probably meant you looked lovely, but in her own sweet way!

Keep looking at those lovely floaty numbers, as you will soon be wearing them and feeling £1million dollars! I will take you out for a slap up meal to celebrate the new trim you!

Sounds good to me, Jon!! Book it for August.
Hmmm.......you doing that on purpose, Jones?? I dunno, you ask if I want to come along too, then talk about going to eat seafood after...uurrrggghhhh!! I'll sit on the pavement outside then.... ;)

Dom - it's not just a fish restaurant, you'll be relieved to know. They do lovely mixed grills, steaks, lamb, and a huge variety of other stuff. And the desserts trolley is to die for - or because of! :D Even Ardross managed a nod towards their wine list, too, though you and I can lay waste to the voddies and tonic. :)

Phew!!! That's a result then!!

I'm sure I can manage to smuggle out of the country a couple of litres of Russia's finest at under a fiver each, too....

Ohhhhhhhh YESSSSSSSSSSSShhhhhhh....! :D

Round to me first, for drinkies - if it's nice, we can take over the rooftop garden, before taxiing to the Melrose (for that is its name) for whatever takes your fancy. There'll be plenty of it, walking manfully along the seafront...

Krizon - have you tried the Brighton restaurant recently featured on Ramsays Nightmares? Looked quite interesting.

Sprouts - usually I find them revolting but the last two Christmasses I have pureed them with creme fraiche & nutmeg - looks like babyfood but tastes very good.

Lolol - I nearly put that earlier, Kirsty!! About the restaurant in Ramsay's Nightmares , that is. To be honest, it's the only time I've actually watched the programme all the way through & it did look like quite a good place, too. It always helps when Ramsay praises the food, even when he first gets there!

Haven't been to Mama's Place yet, jinny, but with hundreds of all kinds of ethnic nosheries around, it's hard to eat at 'em all - try as I might!

Brian, when was that? I moved down here at the very end of 1998, not sure if it was here then? John Dunlop and owners arrived at Brighton a couple of meetings back and said they'd very much enjoyed lunching at English's, which is one of our better efforts, along with One Paston Place, and Blanch House. (This means they cost more than most Brighton eateries, which, because there are SO many, also means that prices are very reasonable indeed.)
