After that shocking run today JFK is still only a top price of 10/1 for the Derby, which suggests either the bookies are gutless or the market thinks Aidan O'Brien is breaking the rules of racing and using the racecourse as a schooling ground.

Which is it?

Rule 212(a)(ii) of the Turf Club's rule book:

[Horses shall not be run in races where they are in a condition which would preclude their chances of winning nor shall they be run for the purpose of giving them a school.

Bookies are gutless. Probably taken enough on him for now and don't want to make him 16s+

I'm no expert but I fail to see how he wins a Derby. Ground against him granted Aidan O'Brien was telling the media he had him fit enough. In his stable tour he was pretty honest about the horses maturity and he seemed to be behind the others and for that reason they didn't want to travel him abroad at this stage.

The only other conclusion I've reached is that he doesn't want 12f yet and won't by June 6th. I think he'll prove a 10f horse on quick ground. He apparently has plenty of speed and that was backed up by his final effort as a juvenile.

Be interesting to see what is given to the press over the next week or so. Other than that I'll have an eye on the Dee entries. I just wonder if the Ballydoyle 3YO will be conquering over 12f this year. I get the feeling he has plenty of milers that will stay 10f and maybe not the 12.

on him at 12s antepost for the derby. worried how little he seemed to find off the bridle but maybe he just wants better ground. imagine he'll still go for the derrinstown unless something comes to light so won't give up on him yet. aob's so often need the run.

I don't agree with those who say a horse should be fully fit before going to the races and should be trying for its life every time it runs, which is quite a standard view on here. I accept that horses will improve as the season wears on and they build towards their big-race targets.

On the other hand it doesn't seem normal that a horse beaten more than 10 lengths in a trial race could remain one of the favourites for an event like the Derby. It became noticeable last year that AOB two year olds were improving hugely for their first run and this year it seems all his horses are completely undercooked for their first run of the season.

I agree with all that, however we both know his horses come on for their first run and that outside of yards like Hannons almost all two year olds are having an educational run first time out and will improve from it

The top and bottom of it is that either JFK was assassinated, is absolutely useless or wasn't fit enough to go to post.

Taking it he wasn't got at I'd go a tad for fitness but to be frank he's overrated to the shithouse.

If he even runs in the Derby I'll be amazed.if he won it AOB should be assassinated :0)..more likely Aiden will now train him to run at Galway over hurdles so Joseph can ride him

Should be 1000/1 for the Derby
