Jockey Club scraps dress codes

Bad thing. Smart casual is fine but go any lower and you get shirtless oiks with their guts hanging over their cut offs from the front and a lovely builders a*se behind! And that’s just the wimmin!

I always dress up for the races especially Ascot. I live in jeans every day so it’s nice to look and feel different. Everything bought on eBay so cheap and recycled.

I think it’s a good thing - people who want to dress up still will and people who don’t want to no longer need to feel that they aren’t welcome just because they don’t enjoy the faff.

I couldn’t care less what people wear most of the time - I’m not there to look at the people ( except RA and some ladies days where I’m totally there to look in shock and wonder at what some people wear [emoji1787])

I have a problem with ties- i don't have one and won't wear one:D

Been to a few King Georges and Champions days but never Royal, reason you have to wear a tie

Could go in the Windsor enclosure i suppose but don't see the point of going racing if your 2f from the winning post

Hopefully Ascot will change their dress codes as well

I’ve been at several courses like Doncaster, Chester and Ascot where bad behaviour was coming from groups of besuited young men and thought how ironic it was that because I wasn’t wearing a tie I wasn’t deemed worthy to be admitted to the same enclosure (interesting word) as them.

The change in dress code is hardly revolutionary but it’s no bad thing.

Ascot dropped the dress code the first Champions Day .
Heading to the parade ring with Art and Paddy we met Edward O'Grady.
He was enjoying a (plastic) glass of wine with two others, one at the ice cream van type vending outlet buying the next round.
" What kind of wine do you want Edward ?"
' What vintage have they ?'
" Red or white "
'Cripes, this place is worse than Tramore , what with that B*****ks ( Matt Chapman) on PA, wine in plastic tumblers and people wearing tee shirts, shorts and sneakers !
If this is Racing For Change let me off the bus !'

At the January NH following meet the officials were tagging Members who wore brown shoes in the Members' Enclosure.
Peter O'Sullevan observed that brown shoes must offend the horses!
As Art says the most dangerous guy at an English race meeting is some yob wearing a suit for the first time.

I think it's a good thing. If someone wants to 'dress up', fine. Clothes don't define how someone is going to behave. People in hundreds(thousands) of pounds worth of clothes can be the most odious, obnoxious people on the planet partly because of the very fact they are wearing clothes which cost something with 3 or 4 figures to the left of a decimal point. I suspect RA will hold out because they're RA.

Went to Newbury over 20years ago with my brother who had flown over from Ireland -I was wearing a jacket, jeans, shoes and a Ralph Lauren shirt -was denied access to the best enclosure because of the jeans. The brother was denied access because he wasn't wearing a tie.It was the day before the Lockinge and you could have died of loneliness at the racecourse.
Bottom line is that neither of us have been back since preferring to spend our hard earned at the Cheltenham November meeting.

I got a lecture about wearing jeans at Newbury too - they were brand new black jeans, so pretty much the smartest leg covering I had at the time. Ripped or faded wash ones I can agree with - but these barely looked different to normal black trousers.
The rest of me was in heeled boots, a nice blouse and a smart wool coat, so I wasn’t exactly scruffy [emoji849]

My mate keeps threatening to get me the salmon coloured trousers you often see people wearing at the races. How these can be deemed less offensive than smart jeans is beyond me.

 I took a friend to Cheltenham on Saturday and he’d never been before...he remarked on exactly the same...spot the offensive red/pink trousers and there were plenty, although the odd mustard coloured cords scored even higher.

Idiots have forgotten about the yobs fighting at Cheltenham already

I certainly dont want to see guys like this go racing and certainly not my 12 year old daughter if I had one,
