Bad incident there at York

Just watched it again and looks like Crowley went for a gap that wasn't there

Horses ok i think

David Noonan probably sustained a nast gash and possible broken leg after a kick before the start. It seems that the starter is being blames for the delays in racing.
I hope he will be ok

Gap was there for the taking, the horse that finished second slammed the door shut when he came across. I am shocked there wasnt a stewards.

Thats how i saw it but dont think anyone was at fault the horse just jinked at exactly the wrong moment. Looked horrific hope everyone's alright. And Noonan over at Fontwell that sounds nasty also.

I regard Jim Crowley as a jockey of above average intelligence (for a jockey) who is now at an age where he has one eye on his pension.

Risking life and limb by going for a narrow gap isn't something I thought he still had in his locker tbh.

I reckon that's the Ayr Gold Cup, ruled out for the horse.

Just highlights how risky a job being a jockey is. If crowley doesn't go for gaps he gets shouted at. I admire these guys immensely for their bravery.

I get what your saying

I watched it back 3 times just after it happened (i have a VM box which automatically records what your watching) there was about 3/4 of a horse width of gap and he took a massive risk

And it backfired

Sean Bowen expressed his frustration at the processes in place prior to the 2m3f maiden hurdle in which David Noonan suffered a suspected broken leg.

There was a stewards' inquiry into the opening 2m5½f conditional jockeys' handicap hurdle won by Shantou Lucky after several jockeys were deemed to have caused a false start.

Lewis Saunders, Harriet Tucker, Freddie Mitchell, Bradley Harris, Callum Pritchard, Jamie Brace, Paddy Hanlon and Nathan Howie, who partnered the winner, were all given one-day bans.

That meant the starter was not in place at the scheduled off-time for the second race, with Bowen citing the delay as a contributing factor to Noonan receiving a nasty kick from a rival at the start.

"Mistakes are made by everyone at times but I feel there was a massive mistake made today – it didn't need to happen," Bowen told Sky Sports Racing. "Dave's a good friend and colleague and to see him get such a nasty injury was horrible.

"We didn't know as we went out that there was a stewards' inquiry to the previous race, so the starters were in there as we were waiting down at the start. We were down there for five or ten minutes before they came. The starters are our safety a lot of the time, helping us and telling us which ones kick and which ones don't.

"We were down there too long and that's when things like that happen. We understand stewards' inquiries need to be done, but we should have been told before we went out to ride in the race.

"When you're stuck on a horse with a broken leg it's horrible. He didn't know how to get off, Gavin Sheehan had to hand his horse to Marc Goldstein and help him off, which was very good of him. We're wishing him well because it was a horrible incident."

Noonan was stretchered on to the ambulance and brought to the jockeys' room for further assessment while his mount Dyadoras Destiny was made a non-runner. The race was eventually won by the 13-8 favourite King's Reign.

Just listening to MC talking about the injuries to the jockeys mentioned here. They showed the X-ray for Jim Crowley which was a pretty nasty displacement fracture 🤮 and Trevor Whelan's sounded horrific.

Hope they all heal well and are back in the saddle again.

He's a jockey?
The well-heeled Corinthian has hung up his boots.

Biggest favour he ever did me was when he gave my totally biased (because I backed it) idea of his best ever ride when his Bob And Co beat Billaway at Punchestown.

But tbh I made more money out of opposing him when he was on ludicrously short-priced favourites, because calamity and him were no strangers to each other.

I'll miss him tbh - he was a lot of fun for a lot of years.
