Harry Skelton getting some dogs abuse on Twatter. 2 sympathetic rides on 2 novices that finished 2nd at Chepstow today.
Justified, or pocket talk ?

I guess one of them must have been Kadastral who is highly thought of, who was on his hurdle debut and facing a red hot favourite who was a steamer and who won as easy as you like. True Harry Skelton didn’t knock him about, but if you expect such a horse in such circumstances to be put under severe pressure then you’re living in cloud cuckoo land. Anyway, all it would have achieved is a few lengths closer second.

KADASTRAL

“He is a lovely horse. It was a great run he put in at Newbury on his last start. He improved a good deal from his first run at Kempton Park to that valuable one at Newbury. He just looked good. He is five and he was against a lot of younger horses that day in that bumper.

“He was an older, more stronger horse than a lot of those, but I just loved what he did and the way he went through the race.

"He was always going to be a horse that was going to improve and he will improve again when he goes chasing. He is just going to get better and better. He is just how you want your store horses to go.

“He will be a fine hurdler, but I think he will be a much better chaser. I’m not going to put the pressure on him.

"We will start at two miles and then accept we might go up in trip. Based on what we have seen I do think he can run in graded novice hurdles.

“I don’t want to run him on bad ground. I want to look after him so that when we go novice chasing we have got the best horse we can have
.”

Probably half justified, i had no involvement.

Skeltons are pot targeting this year. A shit race for pennies round Chepstow wont interest them if they can get it ready for a decent pot.

Hard to tell with these crooks though. And i say that as a compliment.

It's a yard I don't have a lot of trust for...or respect. I just feel it's a bit of a factory. Often happens when they are chasing titles.

Isn’t part of the enjoyment of betting having to work out, without inside information, when a horse is going to win? Although I’m saying that as someone who only bets in pennies!

Skelton yard will have a load laid out for these spring handicaps.
Without trying to soundbite others, theres a couple of horses in that yard that are absolute certainties when they’re off.
Problem is the market will know that as well, so you get no bang for your buck.

I think they will start targeting stuff way before spring. Thats if they want to give the title another serious shot.

Any valuable Saturday handicap ill be on a Skelton horse blind.
Nurse Susan ( 130 ) - 9th of 11 last Sunday at Carlisle in a 0-145 two and a half mile handicap hurdle when never put in the race. Only two runs last season - Cheltenham in March and then Ayr - but won the mares' handicap hurdle at the December Cheltenham meeting the previous season. Thought worthy of an entry in the valuable three mile handicap hurdle at Haydock a week on Saturday. (One of six entries for the Skelton team. ) Runs in familiar blue and yellow quartered colours.

Nurse Susan
8: 11-8
11/1
T: D Skelton J: Harry Skelton
Towards rear, pushed along before 3 out, never involved tchd 12/1

A good article I thought:

I realised I flagged Rian up this time last year although I had spotted him the season before when I got one of those "Hello" moments after seeing him boss the Men's Open at Milborne St Andrew aged 16. I thought then that he was a stand out. I even invented a new award for him, the Wessex Rising Star award and we dragged him back from his summer riding out job at Ballydoyle to collect it. I felt it was important to recognise that even though he didn't win the Wessex Novice Rider award (that went to Ed Vaughan) we wanted to say "Yeah we've spotted you and we are impressed!" And that's to encourage these young kids to keep going (given his background he would have done anyway).

I'm delighted he has ridden his first winner under Rules more so that it was for David Pipe as he and Gerry Supple have been instrumental in guiding him.

Looked terrible, but

Following the race, Nicky Henderson reported that LUCKY PLACE (FR), placed third, had scoped dirty post-race.

just excusing a non trying school or was Nico very perceptive and looked after him

Nico always looks after them. Absolutely weak as piss in a finish.
If 2 of the same horse was jumping upside each other at the last, id back the one Nico wasn’t on.
