Day in day out I see some absolutely shocking rides and my biggest gripe is why on earth when a horse is pulling so hard for his head why don't jockeys just let the thing have a little rein. The energy they lose from pulling surely would be better expended on letting the horse stride on and try and get some kind of use from it. This is even more of a case when you have a horse running in a race which is always going to be a bare minimum for it and has the potential to outstay other horses.
 
I can answer that by referring to Rosie Jessop's ride on Brett Vale at Yarmouth. She certainly let him stride on.
