Tonight on BBC 1 at 21:00 one year on from that terrible event John and Amy Hunt appear in a television programme together. I would imagine even to the hardiest it will be an emotional programme.

John Hunt always seemed to me to be such a nice guy when I saw him presenting on Sky Racing, interviewing racing people, and his good humour in dealing with Matt Chapman, when he was being Matt Chapman.

His impact statement at the trial of the murderer of his wife and children (on the first day of this years Cheltenham, so possibly missed by some in the racing community) was incredible. How he was able to deliver that and the brilliance of the carefully chosen words he used, amaze me. He is obviously a wonderful human being and has my complete respect.

I have seen trailers of the interview today and it is going to be a hard watch to see the full version later, but I will do so to see how both he and his Daughter have been able to carry on in the aftermath of such a crushing event. Sadly, the physical impact on John, unsurprisingly, seems quite obvious. One good thing is that John and Amy have each other and that is helping them deal with this tragedy.

It was indeed quite a watch and a remarkable amount of strength and dignity shown by both John and Amy. It was also an exceptionally sensitive interview by Victoria Derbyshire and I suspect they chose her on purpose. Some of the impact statement was read out by them and yes it was very powerful.
I understand they came to the BBC to correct so many inaccuracies that had been swirling around both the press and social media at the time and they delivered it with such grace, dignity and compassion.
