Know When To Hold 'em...

My fav move is the check raise stone cold bluff on the flop. If he calls check raise him again on the turn. If he calls..............well your f***ed really.......

When bluffing I prefer the Steve Cauthen method. Wind it up from the off. If the flop looks good for a run or flush possibility, bet medium. If the turn improves it, better higher regardless of how many go. Then on the river bet large. As Gearoid says, if you come up against a proper hand, tough, but 8 times out of 10 they will fold to you.

For me the best rasing hands are the cards your opponents wont be holding/ I would raise with 78s in position rather then say K10. Mush easier to bet the flop if you miss with a 78 then a K10.

The trouble im having is this....

Im studying the books, not just reading them but making notes and taking as much in as possible. Just come into the library and found Caro's book of tells which i have on order from USA so quite pissed off i spent £20 when its here!

Anyway, the trouble im having is that all the books ive read so far seem to be teaching me what to do against good players with decent stacks in front of them. In the comps im playing i can almost guarentee 7 out of the nine players have no clue what so ever and will call with basically anything. Also for the first 2 hours whilst people are still buying in, not many, if anyone has a decent stack.

Ive just got a book on tournament play that sklansky recommended in a review. Think its by a guy who calls himself suzuki? Maybe that will help.

Also im going to find some sort of forum (preferably an american so no-one will ever know its me) and ask for advice.

Will let you know if all this reading has helped me, another comp tonight and im gonna wipe the floor with 'em !!!

In the end, the only way to gain experience, as in everything else in life, is to get out there and do it. A word of caution, make sure that the books, especially the US ones, are talking about no limit (or pot limit, which isn't too dissimilar) rather than limit games which are so popular over there.
