Ladbroke Handicap Hurdle

It's been discussed on here many times before Eric. My view is a fine and a ban for the jock should suffice. Why should the owner who stumps up a fortune to keep his horses in training be penalised. The jock potentially loses out on a fair amount of income and possibly some nice rides.

So would you D/Q Bayan + Pine Creek ??
If you do the jockey who maybe could have but did not overuse his whip would be promoted to 1st.
Noel Fehily on Activial seemed to stay within guidelines ???

With respect, that point isn't worth making, eric. If they'd started disqualifying them in the 1990s when the issue first raised its ugly head jockeys would have been toeing the line for the last 15+ years. By now we might even have had the whip banned.

If you had half a tonne of unruly, green horse, you'd demand a whip too Mo. Also tired horses wandering and hanging can cause problems without encourament to run straight.

There are times the whip is necessary in the parade ring let alone at the finish of a race!

No question but a whip is necessary when racing thoroughbreds .
It just seems a pity that the Jockey Club has allowed itself to be pushed into the Politically Correct corner.

Trust me, you need a whip riding a horse, especially a fully fit thoroughbred. You rarely need to use it, but it's an essential piece of safety equipment.
