Totalize is an interesting one. I look out for his trainer in handicap hurdles,

Beaten fourteen lengths back in fifth place in the Fred Winter to Flaxen Flare, but so much can change development-wise in the summer, it would not surprise me if the form reversed itself, especially with Totalise 14 pound better off
I also think his hold up style of running will stand him in good stead?!!

Marble Arch to name just one who won when arriving late from off the pace when I was still a schoolboy. He finished 2nd in the Champion Hurdle later in that season.

I'm sure there's loads of others worth a mention..

Anyone got any of their own ideas, now the field has reduced in numbers since yesterday?

I don't care that Geraghty is down for Rolling Star, Chatterbox's form stands loads of scrutiny.

His second-place in the Gerry Feilding reads well, imo, coming as it did at a time when the yard weren't exactly knocking-in the winners by the bucket-load, and he would have finished closer to The New One in the Neptune over 2m5f, if he'd had a clearer run (and hadn't quickly come off the bridle, suggesting stamina may have been an issue).

The return to 2m won't hurt him at all, and I genuinely think he could be chucked-in off 143.

Apart from Recession Proof I like Chatterbox too and agree with you Grasshopper, would also expect him to come on a fair bit for that Newbury run.

Agree he's got a good chance, but the distance would be a worry. Of more concern (imo) is BG opting to ride t'other one, whom Nicky clearly thinks a lot about. Will also come on for his seasonal debut, and deeper ground than the so called 'soft' at Haydock.
Both trainer and jockey have got it wrong in the past, but - when it comes to these valuable handicaps - they're right much more often than not, and at around the same price (which they are now), I'd take Rolling Star anytime.

They've always thought a lot of Rolling Star. Did he really start shorter than Our Conor in the Triumph? Big lol. The horse doesn't have the form to warrant his odds considering what he's running off tomorrow.

He's widely reported to be a different horse this season, Euro. The 17l he's found with Far West on Triumph form, and the 15l gained on Runswick Royal on his Anniversary Hurdle run hardly suggests they're wrong, either.

Tough to call but I quite like Flaxen Fare, Trainer won this last year and isn't that his only ever runner at Ascot or have I had too much Christmas spirit ?

two against the field at very nice prices are Flaxen Flare & Pine Creek

I've backed Pine Creek but fear the ground might just be too soft now. Flaxen starting to look exposed for me. Trusting BG with Rolling Star

Shocking effort - never went a yard.

Yep. Good story.

So that's Chatterbox and arguably AFC as well who would probably have been better served going chasing at the start of the season.

That is one sh1t hot race.

Okay, so a few have disappointed but so many of them were off for their life and the front two left them for dead. The ground will have exaggerated the distances but I expect the race to throw up winner after winner.

You could hardly see the race on course. It was nightmare conditions. What I do recall is that good few horses seemed to blow up in the straight. Hardly surprising but It was quite a pace and I might want to avoid backing too many again too quickly

I thought the signs were there with rb last season

Were there complaints on course about running the feature race of the day in the near dark?
