Just booked a holiday here in August, anyone ever been? Any recommendations of must see things when we are there? Is Venice worth the trip?

Any my advice appreciated. Myself and significant other going.

I thought you were referring to St Kevin and Glendalough: "Well he gave old Kitty a shake, and I wish that a Garda had caught him, for he threw her right into the lake, and bejasus she sank to the bottom".

Sirmione is worth a visit, it's the prettiest town on the lake and you can get one of the steamers that crisscross it.

Verona is a must, I would say, especially the Roman amphitheatre they still use for the opera festival.

Venice is amazing, but it will be crowded at this time of year.

Change your socks and pants every day.

Highly recommend Venice as well

Visited the summer before last in mid-August and yes extremely busy, but worth it. We got there early, stayed late and just took our time. Even with kids in tow it was fabulous, but would definitely return with just Mrs P

Yeah, so did I brother.... Turns out I couldn't keep dissappointing as many women as possible, and have been concentrating on dissappointing just one special lady of late. We thought it a good idea to go somewhere else. I think she thinks I'm affected by the lack of sun, and maybe il not be as miserable when I get to a warmer climate. Jokes on her though, I HATE the heat....

Thanks for the feedback, especially Grey. Jock and socks a must, no throwing the one pair into the pool for a rinse when there's a lady present...

Looks like Venice is a must see, will definitely go. Had a recommendation for Verona too. Someone said it was a better place to stay as regards price but we are booked.

Any recommendations as regards where to eat? We don't like Italian food... Or red wine.... (I jest)

Go to Cannareggio in Venice. Most 'authentic' quarter. And the jewish one, too. (Clive will be shocked to see I am recomending this :) ) Stay away from San Marco and just get lost in quiet streets.

Lago di como extremely nice - go to Bellagio, Mennaggio and Varenna.
