Ok, so i start a part time course in September as part of my job, and will need a lap top for the course and for my job. I am going in totally blind here, i have used Desktops all my life basically, and was browsing the Dell website getting more and more confused. Basically i require the following;

Something that is quick for accessing the internet, for streaming lectures etc, so it needs to have a quick internet speed(if that makes sense).I have broadband at home here, eircom is the provider.
Most of the other use will be for word processing, and putting together presentations. Storage will be a plus as it will hold my lesson plans and my course work as well i would imagine, but id imagine that there will be large storage on most devices now.

Anyone purchase recently or have a recommendation? Any help is much appreciated.

I picked up a nifty one lately for €700. The prices are down Del so its a buyers markets. I think most laptops will meet your requirments. I went into two stores and the staff just bore you with jargon that will mean nothing to you. I do know that the internet spped is down to your internet connection and not the laptop.

Cheers for the replies all, Will look into those links, need to get one sorted in the next month or so.

Okay, one more question. Having looked into buying a Dell Laptop, a major extra and increase on the price is the after sales support and repair. Anyone have any opinion on this or experience of it? Is it worth getting or could a local computer shop do as good? For example, one laptop im looking at with 3 yrs premium service added increases by €220 for said service...

Personally, I wouldn't bother. The chances of anything going wrong with a laptop nowadays are pretty slim and a local geek could probably sort it out for less than that.

We use a local guy at work who just fixes computers part-time and he's cheap as chips and very useful.
