RACECOURSE bookie Matthew Thompson will appear before a disciplinary panel on Thursday charged with placing lay bets on horses from stables where he was riding work.
The on-course layer was registered as a stable employee with Mick Easterby and Bill Moore at a time when he is accused of placing numerous lay bets on horses trained at those yards.

Under the rules of racing work riders, whether paid or unpaid, are barred from placing lay bets on horses from the stables at which they ride out.

Thompson also faces a charge of failing to comply with a requirement to provide telephone records for the period in question.

That's what the Racing Post says.

Interesting.

Wearing his racecourse bookie hat, is he allowed to lay bets on runners from those stables, or do the rules require that he abstain from running a book on races in which Moore or Easterby runners are involved?

You'd hope so Grey - assuming the rules are similar/identical in Ireland Barney O'Hare could be in some serious trouble if you're not.
