What a cracking novice chase. Reputations on the line here. Five really good novices in there and Abbeybraney and Oulart are no back numbers either.

I can't desert Thyne Again now...but respect J'y Vole. In fact, I respect them all but that's my forecast. Big Zeb needs to jump better, Notre Pere needs a trip and Sky's The Limit..well...I guess I just think there's more potential in the front two but he's a great yardstick.

J'Y Vole is a fair enough favourite but the price of Skys The Limit is an insult.

Thyne Again is all hype...Albanov got hammered the other day while he won an egg and spoon race the last day without jumping well.

The mare could well win this but at the price Skys The Limit has to be a bet.

I think Jyvole sets a strong standard, but Big Zeb is the horse of most potential for me, and is too big. Cashmans 16/1 earlier in the week was all wrong.

Big Zeb is an interesting one, he is not a bad jumper. Didnt touch a twig when he won easy at Fairyhouse...think its just concentration/enthusiusm that has caused him to fall on his two runs.

Sky's The Limit seems strangely underestimated when you consider what he did over hurdles. Should love the drying ground, trip is perfect, sound jumper and should be nice and fresh for this.

I just dont think he is as good a chaser as a hurdler. Yes, think two first fence falls doesnt mean that the horse is a bad jumper. Its a little more reassuring that a novice that falls after a series of blunders.

BZ has had one pretty much flawless round of jumping. He has fallen at the first on two other occasions. I am willing to write off those two falls as unfortunate slips, rather than evidence that he is a poor jumper.

Had he stumbled, hesitated, propped and blundered his way around in those races, I wouldnt be so forgiving.....

I am a big fan of Jy Vole but she could be too short on Sunday.I sincerely hope Big Zeb doesn't win on Sunday having advised my brother not to taken the 16s offered by Cashmans and given him chapter and verse on why it cant win.

Plenty of money this morning for Big Zeb and the mare. I think Mullins horse will be hard to beat but at the price it has to be Skys The Limit for me.

What do we think of the novice hurdle? Back on decent ground and with a half decent ride I think Cork All Star will win this well.

Also as someone pointed out on TRF, what is Prince Erik doing running in a handicap rather than the juvenile conditions race? he should love this drying ground.

If he was mine, I wouldn't be happy with Carberry's ride. The last thing you want to do when giveing on\ver a stone away is to kick on! And what was he doing at the last down the far side. Staying to the rigth of the winner was suicide given she was jumping right and he ended up running into her and giving away the momentum he had created going into the fence. That was def four or five lenghts. Disappointing.

Fair points Cantoris. I think Carberry had to move after he was shunted back to fourth, (Carberry's fault by staying right of the mare) and was in danger of getting out of the hunt as the race developed.

Looked like he didnt stay, and was only 1l ahead of Abbeybraney at the line. As you know, I have the highest of hopes for the horse. Is there any question, that he might have needed the run. Only his second run this year. Great performance giving 15lbs to a smart smart mare.

He didn't need the run. He did two circuits with the mare in Gowran. I just don't think you can rev a horse into a fence by making three lengths and suddenly lose that and then go again. He was upsides Skys/Abbeybraney after the second last down the back, clear of him on take off at the last yet Skys/Abbey were back up with him 50 yards later. Then he went six clear of Skys/Abbey on the home turn. but was nearly caught by Abbey at the line. That doesn't suggest to me that he gave the horse an even ride. I'm not sure he would have won anyway as she won well at the line but it was not a good ride for such a good jock. I'm not sure what the instructions were but stamina should not a problem for him although he doesnt tend to find that much off the bridle. He is a little one paced, although that pace is at a very high level. I'm just a little disappointed for the lads in the yard as they think so much of him, yet he hasn't won a graded race for them.

Would you be confident of staying the trip in the Sun Alliance Chase? - Assuming that the jockey gives an even ride.

I accept your points but I think the one danger was in front of Carberry going down the back, went after her, was shunted back when she made her mistake. Got after him and went for the kill.

As you mentioned, second is probably where he would have finished regardless of the ride. Still a good performance, giving weight away to the winner.

My main bet today was Big zeb. I have no complaints with the ride he was given. He didn't quite stay at the pace, but I felt Ruby always had a little in hand, he didn't really give her the works when Big Zeb went past.

Given that J'Y Vole tried to get onto the ambulance at the bottom bend and gave away all her advantage 3 out she really has to be credited with a facile win. Not even the remotest chance at cheltenham though.

Of course the master clocker Mordin said she was to be opposed today-he saw the negatives in winning by a distance last time out.

She was very brave - a horse which leads all the way, is well in front, then loses that lead rarely battles back to get up. A well deserved win

Fair play to the mare

Not giving up on Thyne Again just yet. Never really travelling, looked like they were cautious about getting the trip but he just seemed to be a bit flat. Still a bit of an immature horse I reckon considering his problems. Can't see a race for him at Cheltenham this year. Best to go for the Powers and come back stronger next year.

Thyne Again jumped poorly at times and just is not good enough imo.

Disappointing to hear only 10 minutes before the off of the race that Skys The Limit was off his field a few days last week with a virus! Ran like it today.

Thought the mare was very tough but a very difficult ride.

Galileo, where do you think STL on his best chasing form would have finished yesterday?

TA has a good engine but does jump stickily.

I know its an irish bias, but I am looking forward to the powers gold cup more than either the Arkle or the Sun Alliance Chase this year. It just seems that the best novices at the moment are all 2m4f horses.
