Leopardstown Sunday

He looked the winner coming into the straight then stopped to nothing. Looked more like he burst or injured himself than that he had a virus or lacked fitness.

I really can't see how Thyne Again can be labelled not good enough just a couple of runs back after a long injury. There's more to come from this fella.

Totally agree, Bobbyjo.

The Powers Gold Cup is shaping up to be some race this year. Not sure Thyne Again will be seen to best effect on good ground though..

I think Jyvole sets a strong standard, but Big Zeb is the horse of most potential for me, and is too big.
Good call Garney, you had first and second there I think :)

I know its an irish bias, but I am looking forward to the powers gold cup more than either the Arkle or the Sun Alliance Chase this year. It just seems that the best novices at the moment are all 2m4f horses.
Not picking on Garney, as I had the same view.

But it is bitterly disappointing to see the field for the Powers on Sunday.

Five runners, only. And only two with Group 1 pretensions; Big Zeb and Sky's The Limit.

There is certainly not an abundance of talented chasers in Ireland at the moment. Not helped by fact that our best two i.m.o. Glencove & Pedrobob were ruled out for their respective seasons

yes, not as good as hoped. Like the two you mention and wouldnt be writing Conna Castle obituary just yet over fences (although he is now a bit old to be thinking of being top class) Its a nice field, but J'y vole looked to have done her winning last time out and misses teh race, as does Nicanor, who had been entered. Perce Rock and Clopf run on Saturday, two horses that might have been tempted. Would hope that Big Zeb is good enough here. Oscar Honey is a horse I like but hard to suggest in this company just yet.

I had Sky's The Limit in my accumulator, so shouldn't be laughing :dork:

Disappointing Big Zeb couldn't deal with Conna Castle. Sky's The Limit ran no sort of race again. Kept changing his lead from a long way out.

Something not quite right with BZ. Just not finishing his races. Maybe he will turn out to be a 2m, but is not winning enough races for a horse of his talent. Conna Castle is a very good horse and given that Mangan & Carberry said that he wasnt fully fit, it was a good effort. He is older than the normal novice winner, but he has had his problems. I would reserve judgement until he runs at Aintree.

Galileo, I know you like to follow O'Grady's over cliffs, but I still think that Sky's the Limit's early season form didnt really amount to a whole pile and even at his best, I think third was as good as he could do.

Thought this years race was a class ahead of last year's.

Clopf and O'Muir are the only two I can think of...

Sky's The Limit was/is much better than he showed today. Does not mean he is top class but at his best he has achieved just as much as Big Zeb and co.

Back In Front?

But just like O'Muir and Clopf, Sky's the Limit will find his level too, but I think connections still have hope that he can reach the top. I cant see how Skys The Limit will ever really recapture what he did at Chelt. I still think some of the ratings achieved before christmas overestimate his ability by about 10lbs, and to be honest, I'm not sure he will win another race.

Has he ever though? The truth of the matter is he has never won a race where he has had to come off the bridle and he is certainly not the most resolute in a battle.

Granted, the small field and having to lead probably wasn't ideal for him today, but he's one to be wary of now for me.

in general he has been beaten by good horses over hurdles. So i wasnt aware of any quirk like that, until the leop race where he had the race won and stopped in front. He doesnt race like the everyday shirker, and doesnt look to throw in the towel, but it has to be a worry at this stage.
