I thought this would please Ardross....

He's mad, does he really think that there is any point in setting up on his own?!

KILROY-SILK TO QUIT UKIP

Former television presenter Robert Kilroy-Silk is expected to quit the UK Independence Party less than year after joining.

It is believed he plans to form his own party after failing to win support to take over the leadership of UKIP.

The ex-talk show host was UKIP's highest profile candidate and after he joined, the party celebrated a triumphant European parliamentary election.

It was running on a platform of British withdrawal from the European Union.

And Mr Kilroy-Silk said he would happily take his seat in Strasbourg - but only in order to wreck the European Parliament.

By the time UKIP held its party conference in the autumn, the situation was already turning sour.

Mr Kilroy-Silk went on to say he would be leader by Christmas.

But since his plan did not come to fruition, he is setting up his own party believed to be called Veritas - the Latin word for "truth".

Political watchers say he may have his eye on Geoff Hoon's Ashfield constituency, where he would need to overturn a Labour majority of more than 13,000.

I saw an interview with him on Sky News last night at his press conference after he quit UKIP. It was embarassing; the Sky News presenter kept trying to wind it up & K-S kept spouting more and more crap. He came across as even more slimy and shifty then I thought he was, which I really didn't think was possible! And as for that perma-tan.....

The Channel 4 News interview sounds very similar to the one that you saw, except that there is a bit of previous between Kilroy and Jon Snow, going back to Liverpool University in the '70s. Kilroy was a lecturer there when Snow was a student. When the students began to protest (which was compulsory in those days) Kilroy used to wind them up with rousing speeches and told them to occupy the University building as the start of their revolution. Thousands did just that. Later, when university authorities and police ended the occupation - after several weeks - ten student ringleaders were hauled up in front of a university "court". Two were expelled, some were suspended for two years, others - including Snow - were suspended for a year. They were allowed no legal representation, though the university employed a QC to prosecute their case. The students looked around for help, but no one came to their aid - especially that preacher of revolution, Robert Kilroy-Silk, who had thoroughly gone to ground. It adds spice to any Snow interview of the mad tanned one.

As Dom says, he's a thoroughly unpleasant individual.

But there is one good thing about all this (well, apart from UKIP looking even dafter than one would have thought possible too) and that's we should appreciate a little more just how lucky we are to have the freedom to start new political parties up, should we so wish. While there are of course some limits wich have to be applied, at least they are sensible and reasonable ones and I consider myself damn fortunate to live in a country where such freedom is taken for granted.

As an Irish Chairman, the first item on the agenda would be the split. Then there would be a walk out and three new parties formed.

- The Real TH Party (Garney)
- The Continuity TH Party (Luke)
- The Provisional TH Party (Gearoid)
