Is anyone tuned into Southwell this afternoon, and taking notice of Chapper's race commentaries?
I think he is remarkably good. Very very good indeed.
He's really bringing the races alive, and getting all his calls spot-on.
Credit where it's due -- just thought I'ld mention it ! :)

Old Chappers isn't everybodys' cup of tea- there is no doubting his enthusiasm for racing. I like him on the box anyway, always entertaining to say the least:D

I think he is slightly more restrained than he used to be on ATR . As for his commentaries he is always accurate and on the ball unlike Jim McGrath for example IMO.

What's most significant is what has not been said on this thread - Two years ago you would have been lambasted for suggesting Chappers is any good at anything... Not now. Slowly but surely he's worn people down!!!!!

At a Cheltenham preview inKillarney he shaked hands with all present, went on stage, gave an insightful reprise on all races with just a fraction of the b******t that he carries on with on tv. By the way, he also tipped the most winners. Obviosly more than one side to Matt.
On the other hand, at Champions Day at Ascot as MC he was completely OTT.

His 'Yeehaa' shite on ATR when I previously had Sky used to drive me up the wall, but he regularly 'MCs' in the paddock at one of the courses local to me and is great - joky but not OTT interviews which genuinely add to the raceday atmosphere.

I quite like the Windsor meeting on art on Monday nights. But chapman is doing my head in

He's like the bloke in the office who makes completely unfunny "jokes" VERY LOUDLY.

Had enough now. Can't they saw his head off or something?

Windsor was bad enough with Hammond and McCririck - yet Chaparse tops them for A grade irritancy . I am rather sorry he failed his commentating trial - at least it kept him off screen a bit otherwise .

I have a grudging liking for Chapman, he's kinda like the furniture as I only watch ATR (can't afford RUK). I've liked his commentating so far.

I like a commentator who tells you what's going on who makes mistakes, who fell, who got stuffed round a bend....not a litany of whose in first second, third place like the Irish commentators.

The best thing about BBC losing their racing was not having Jim McGrath, though sadly he's still occasionally on ATR!!

But ALL British commentators a better than the Irish.

At least Chapman gets stuck in and doesn't tip toe around...rather that than the submissive interviewing that usually abounds in racing.

I am probably alone in this, but I quite like Chapman.

I wouldn't defend everything he does or says but I quite like him too.

And I don't understand why 78% of respondents to a Racing Post poll says the new C4 coverage is worse than the old.

People complain too much about what they're getting on the telly, apart from the ads, which become unbearably repetitive.

I agree in general, though, about the remarks on the Irish commentators. The younger ones seem to be modelling themselves on their doyen Des Scahill when they would be better off developing their own styles.

It's not the content but the style that grates. He talks like a failed game show host TALKING VERY LOUDLY to a couple of stone deaf and rather simple doddery old contestants who are struggling to hold their bladders together

At least he isn't Colin Murray

I almost broke my neck diving for the off button on the radio when that smug cnnt's voice unexpectedly boomed out the other day. There's a gangland execution whereby they pour polyfilla down your throat and you can guess the rest. Not nice but it's an option
