My thoughts exactly, Jules. I had mumps, and nasty it was too. I too was from the pre-MMR generation but I had the measles jab (then rubella when I was about 12, having been diagnosed with German Measles 4 times when I was a child) so didn't contract it. However my brother didn't have the measles jab as he was allergic to one of the components of the vaccine when he was due to have the jab. One of the clearest memories I have from a young age was my brother having measles - he was very, very ill. Luckily my uncle spotted that it was measles that he had at a very early stage (we were at a family do and my brother got ill - my uncle was a doctor and on examining him diagnosed measles early) so he could be treated for it early. I can vividly remember the hushed atmosphere in the house and watching my brother vomiting copious amounts of blood everywhere. It was exceptionally frightening to go through.Originally posted by Songsheet@Apr 6 2006, 09:45 AM
Well, I'm glad these vaccines were available for my son to have - any of you actually had measles and/or mumps/whooping cough?
