The brutal reality of the life of a jumps jockey.

Michael O'Sullivan has sadly died after failing to recover.

An unbelievable talent with so much ahead of him to achieve and in a young career, so much accomplished.

Lost for words on this one

It was unbelievably painful to wake up to the news. A very talented jockey and by all accounts, a lovely guy. RIP and thoughts are with family & friends.

A local lad so totally lost for words.
Watching some of his interview on thehorse.ie last evening I was reminded of his early talent on the p2p field, especially at Kildorrery seven years ago when he rode a double, Irish Stamp singing his praises at that stage.
Unlucky to have a last fence unseat on Oighear Dubh at Cheltenham that October meeting he left that behind when making the call to Barry Connell to ride Marine Nationale in a bumper .
His professional career began , at our expense, when he guided Magnor Glory to victory in a Listowel feature hurdle when Dad's Lad was favourite and finished fifth.
Two months later he bagged his first Grade 1 before his dream Festival day 1 double and the Irish conditional jockey championship.
Covid may have cost him two seasons but he had a University education in hand to help him express an informed opinion with confidence.
His successes in France and Britain this season were new opportunities but alas now the light has quenched , but how it shone .
Rest In Peace Michael .

It's bought back memories for me of Keiran Kelly I can't believe it's been over 20 years since he passed. Both young Irish men, Both lads biggest winners would possibly have been novice hurdle winners at the festival with Marine Nationale in the Supreme and Hardy Eustace in what was the RSA hurdle at the time. Unfotunately both passed at a similar age and will always be remembered forever young. Keiran had sadly passed before the next years festival and although it looked unlikely Hardy Eustace won the following Champion Hurdle at 33/1 almost as if Keirans spirit was there to urge him up the hill. A very emotional moment for all concerned. I'm just wondering I'd history will repeat itself and whether there'd be a dry eye in the house if Marine Nationale storms up the hill to take the Queen Mother champion chase this year.
