My notebook runners

2:48 Wetherby: A bit early to be having full bets, but Primoz won this race last year and had a good run a few weeks ago at Kelso where he ran pretty near his best in second. Would prefer to see a bit of soft in the ground, though. Parisencore is handily weighted, but his best runs have come over longer distances. Torneo is the youngster at the party who may have improvement in him. It is his opening shot this season, though, but Snowden’s runners are running well. I’ve had a starter on Primoz and will see how the market develops if I’m to add.
I've a feeling Borracho may run better than his price but good luck with yours, mate.

Blimey! What a fiasco. Be interesting to see how fast the rest of the card goes. This one was run 5:00 secs fast, the two previously 10.4 slow and 12.5 slow.

Friday 17th October

Not much of interest today. I wasn’t expecting Koapey - 4:07 Uttoxeter - to go straight over fences this season rather than sticking to hurdles for a bit. Warren Greatrex knows what he’s up to, though, so it’ll be interesting to see how he goes and how the market reacts.

Saturday 18th October

That was a nice debut by Koapey, jumped well and wasn’t flogged to death in a fruitless chase of the winner. Promising.

Champions Day today and it’ll be a super finale to the flat season, but not one to be risking house and furniture. I took Field Of Gold last evening and will probably have some fun with Division in the 2yo and Montassib in the sprint.

Well, that was fun . To top it all I said on the Champions Day thread that anything would win the Fillies and Mares bar Kaplana and Estrange :ROFLMAO:

You can only spend so much time sorting out horses to follow and waiting for the notebook to build up before you start getting fed up and pining for some action. Give in.

3:40 Plumpton: Alien Storm - 22/9 headed over the last and just held by stablemate winner going down by three quarters of a length. Worth a go - took a little at 2/1 last evening (had been 7/2).

Nice win from Alien Storm with some in hand. Jumping was a bit iffy in terms of speed lost over hurdles (favourite was even worse) and that’ll need to be sharpened up.

I thought Nardaran won very easily - 4:10 - and looks as though he might have improved considerably from last season, although I’m not sure what he beat here. Keep an eye on him, anyway.

Nothing today, but I’ll be interested to see how Kingston Pride goes on his chasing debut at Perth, 3:00. Only three runners, but potentially a hot little race.

Nice chase debut from Kingston Pride who had drifted to outsider of three (crazy price), due presumably to some worry about the ground turning soft. Shame the odds-on favourite Tripoli Flyer fell, but Kingston Pride had been jumping much the better and hadn’t even thought about putting in a challenge at that stage. Need to see more before being sure, but looked promising.

“I was worried about the ground but he seemed to go through it well, so it’s a nice start but I’m not sure where he’ll go next. He’ll be campaigned like a good horse.” Olly Murphy.

Thursday 23rd October

Nothing from the notebook today.

Rumour has it that George’s Lad - 3:45 Fontwell - is set to go chasing, so this one may be just a pipe opener. He improved race by race last season and looked like featuring in the places in a Class 1 at Sandown last time before falling at the last. He’s drifted a bit in the market which is not good. A watch really unless the market speaks.

The market stayed mute for George’s Lad, so a remote third and a pipe opener it was. I hope it’s a chase next and he should be ready for it after this.

First notebook out today at Cheltenham.

French Ship - 1:15 - was well supported second favourite at Chepstow - 11/10 on his handicap debut he had been racing third then moved up to challenge three out looking to be going well when stumbled and came down shortly after the fence. I think at least he’d have gone close if he’d stayed up. - That was a Class 2 and although this one is a Class 3 it looks a tougher assignment. Hobbs has also got Saint Anapolino in it (and he’s a snappy performer) on his first run of the season. Add in Henderson’s classy East India Express and a couple of Irish lurkers and dangers abound. Catered for in the price, though, 7/1 at the moment.

Not a notebook, but another of interest is Un Sens A La Vie in the 3:00 who was impressive on his hurdle debut run at Market Rasen ten days ago. There’s some potential quality in this field, though, so have to watch how the market goes with them before considering what is a short price for USALV

Well that was very nice. One notebook out, one winner. 100% record, I’d better draw stumps now. I usually scrub them from the notebook when they win, but French Ship won so convincingly I think there will be more to come unless the handicapper goes bonkers (as he might). Un Sens A La Vie drifted out to 5/2 as others strengthened. Knew I should leave it alone, but I didn’t. Perhaps I’ll learn one of these days - DON’T BACK DRIFTERS is my only solid rule.

No notebooks today, but if the five star Michelin Chef put a plate in front of you it’d be rude not to at least taste it. I’ll have a nibble at Slim’s Major Fortune in the first.

No notebooks today.

Rumour has it that Bespoke Tailor - 2:40 Fontwell - might be a bit special, but he’ll need to be to give the odds-on favourite Idaho Sun anything to worry about. Just a watch.

Bespoke Tailor ran pretty well, but his jumping was on the poor side of average. He closed up with the leading two, but lost lengths over the hurdles and just cantered in when they went away. Beat the rest of the field easy enough, though. Might be something there if he gets his jumping together.

Nothing today.

No notebooks, but Kayf Dancer - 2:53:Newton Abbott- ran The New Lion to seven lengths a year ago and then followed that with a facile 1/14 win at Exeter in March. Not sure why he only ran the twice, but if he’s ok he should be bang there today.

Won’t be about for a couple of days.

Kayf Dancer was disappointing last Wednesday and there didn’t seem to be any good reason.

Away at the moment and missed out yesterday on Be Aware who jumped well and won on his chase debut. He tracked the leader, Grandeur Dame, for most of the race and that one was still in the lead when falling at the last. Be Aware hadn’t been really asked for much at that stage, but it made life easier. His jumping was top notch and he’ll be a force to be reckoned with, I think.

No notebooks today, but a few to watch.

Eremenco - 12:25 Uttoxeter - “She’s a half-sister to Doddiethegreat and won her bumper at Southwell in May very nicely. She’s not terribly big, but she’s tough, feisty and jumps very well. She wouldn't want the ground too quick.” Henderson

Jax Junior and Vanderpoel - 3:05 Uttoxeter - just want to see how they jump.

Eremenco was a non-runner and nothing to get excited about with the other two, although their jumping was passable.

Bugger me, there’s some cracking racing today, but I’m still away and will be busy helping to erect a shed for my son. No notebooks and a cursory glance at the cards leads me to wonder if Military Alliance can put one over on the potentially exciting odds-on Soomaroy - 2:35 Ascot.

The 2:05 looks a hot race. Martator won it last year, reserves his best for Ascot and looks well weighted with Ned Fox up. There are dangers round every corner, though, including Henry De Bromhead who has Special Cadeau and he doesn’t send many over here on suicide missions.

I’m going to try not to hear or see the results and then enjoy the replays as if live. Won’t be much betting, though.

Military Alliance was very nice, worked at it to win whilst Soomaroy wasn’t knocked about trying to. Should they meet again I wouldn’t anticipate the same result. Martator was withdrawn due to a bruised foot and Special Cadeau wasn’t up to it.

Couple of notebooks today:

2:55 Huntingdon - I hope it’s not the kiss of death that Harry Derham has won four from his last six runners and is running a 45% hit rate over that last couple of weeks. Pure Carbon ran very well last time when his horses weren’t quite firing - 11/10 all Harry Derham’s runners haven’t looked fully there yet, but Pure Carbon ran a decent second and is much nearer than most. He was easily the slickest jumper according to jumps data. One for next time. Hope the rain keeps off, though.

3:12 Carlisle - Inis Oirr has raced a lot in Class 3 and better, but is mostly found wanting. His opening shot this season was perhaps his best run for a long time - 16/10 rattled home into a neck second finishing easily the best of all. - and he’s worth a chance to go one better. Not for a full bet, though.

Inis Oirr was a waste of space, but Pure Carbon more than made up for it, hanging on to win nicely. Shortened to evens from 5/2, but I didn’t add because I was so busy with the shed. It’s up now and we’re back home.

4:20 Hereford: Gerard Mentor ran a good race last time -18/10 looked as though he had come to win his race, but couldn’t get past the winner going down by a neck with the rest miles away. - Sounds good, but it was a hurdle race pipe opener. Should have teed him up for today’s return to fences. He has a history being iffy on the run-in, though, so won’t be risking much.

"Gerard Mentor is back in a handicap chase after a good run when second over hurdles at Stratford. He's not an easy horse to win with but he has been second around here twice before.. Place chances."
Trainer

Similar from Gerard Mentor. He ran a decent enough race, but lost momentum at the last when challenging. Cost him second, maybe, but he wouldn’t have got near the winner. He won’t do better.

Nothing today,

2:30 Chepstow: Matty's Getaway, cost a bit after winning an Irish point and showed a lot of promise on his rules debut - 10/10 raced mid division and was badly hampered three out, it was a strong effort to recover and run into third. He’s well thought of, as are several others in this and it looks one to keep notebooks handy. He’s a bit weaker in the market as Sober Glory has strengthened into evens.
