New Point To Point Forum

The lady can't help her name or the image it projects, but she can help what she says. Not a word about: the horses, access to form, the betting ring. If you're a punter from an urban background there is zero encouragement for you to feel a day at the races at a Point is for you.

Tiggy is young.
Young people see things differently and have different priorities to aged farts like us Ian.
Looking at old race books once a horse was aged in double figures the letter A replaced numerical age.
This was us ; hearing a whisper , having a punt and getting one up on the enemy ,ideally while crossing the ditch down road to avoid admission fees were what p2ps locally were once about.
Alas here in Ireland the power base has moved to an Industrial style preparation of young horses by stables hock deep in debt to sales companies.
Such a description would not excite any urban punter either methinks.
The chance to see the next Constitution Hill or Honeysuckle might, however.

I don't think wanting to know if it's "proper" racing with recognisable horses, pedigrees, access to form and a betting ring to have a bet in are questions confined to punters of a certain age, Eddie.

Yes, it IS a proper day at the races, it's competitive, there's form and bookies to bet with is the minimum requirement message to be sending out there.

That clip came across as a wasted opportunity imo.

Is that her real name ?
Poor lady, her parents should not have been let out; no disrespect meant.
Indeed I believe it is. I presume her first name is short for something - or maybe she just omits the "winkle" on the end to make it easier?

She used to do the social media for the Skelton's prior to working in another marketing role before getting this job. I'm not totally au fait with how marketing works but I'm not a big fan of the Blue Mic that is thrust at unsuspecting participants with seemingly very little media training or ability. But possibly that's what Millennials want? My feeling is that this way is a little premature and the sport needs addressing by encouraging new owners into it rather than boosting the crowd sizes or soon they are not going to have a sport to watch.

Her real name is Olivia. She may be a distant relative of the late Sir Arthur Streeb-Greebling, and could find work in a few years' time on one of the racing channels.

Sadly, she and those of her ilk haven't got a clue.

As stated above, despite increased crowds (great weather this year) those who attend are seeing fewer horses.

Without greater incentives (better prize money, better ownership experience) for people to want to own Point racehorses, the sport will struggle.

It's a Classic case of marketing a product without first fixing the product.

Yes, she's relatively young, but she's not TWELVE, she's an adult and this is actually her paid job - she's on the sport's marketing team.

That clip was pathetic and the social media reaction to it was predictable.

They simply aren't trying to sell the sport to anyone outside their own narrow socioeconomic demographic.

A lot of Jumps racegoers would enjoy a day at the Points - but amid all the sidesaddle and strongest farmer rubbish there was nothing to tell them it's proper horse racing with proper racehorses, higher standards of training and jockeyship than ever, access to form and a betting ring.

I agree with most of the above other than categorising the lady “and those of her ilk” it is like saying that all people from the same profession are all the same ie commentators, politicians, journalists, pundits…………..as with everything in life there are good and bad.

The newly released TVT interview on Nick Luck yesterday is longer and imo slightly better……but still not perfect 🫣

Edith Pelham sold out of the Andrew’s/Ellis yard for £180,000 maintained her 100% record today at Aintree and is now 3 from 3

So good to see that Peter Wright is not lost to Point To Pointing but is Secretary to The Larkhill Racing Club meeting on January 4th 2026 😉

I think that the statistic we all want to see over and above bigger crowds is in fact MORE HORSES !! Make no mistake that the decline in horse numbers pointing will eventually see less horses in NH racing !! Let’s be honest it is already happening ☹️

First meet of current season in Dromahane this Sunday 9th.
As well as hosting 7 p2p meetings throughout the season there are weekly schooling and galloping sessions there.
A problem with a lot of regular p2p fans is the utilisation of one location for so many meetings; the variety of locations was an attraction for many through the season.

I have just come from a dairy farm where the in house dairymaid, a French lady, has a 3 yo Workforce filly ex Presenting mare in yard.
She purchased and broke in the filly herself with a view to perhaps p2p racing her in the spring. The farmer has been involved in a few and his father (still alive ) trained a few tasty pointers form home years ago , Amber Blossom and Amber Payne among them , names that might ring a bell with John Edwards fans of yesterdecades.
Lovely lady, lovely filly.
Wishing them both the very best.
