Are you seriously telling me they had a two-minute silence for ‘VJ Day’? What the f%*& is wrong with racing? Jockeys wearing black armbands and heads bowed for the massacre inflicted by a nuclear weapon. Racing on the pulse, as per usual.

Careful, slim. The VJ Day commemoration is about paying tribute to the service and sacrifice of those who fought in the Far East. Lest we forget. Ghastly as it was, it’s not about the nuclear destruction.

I agree with Slim and I do get extremely uncomfortable with all these VE/VJ etc 'celebrations'.

I'd be much more comfortable with a commemoration of some sort of "Peace in Europe" or "Peace in Japan" event, focusing on the horror of nuclear weaponry in the latter and remembering all the fallen together. Rubbing salt in the wounds of the defeated nations does nothing for world peace going forward.

Japan is now talking about rearming and that should put the shiters right up anyone with a brain cell in their bonce.

I take it Tanya Stevenson is behind this stuff?

Careful? f%*& off. I'm embarrassed for the jockeys. Sport should never be political.

But sport always has been right back to the days of Joe Louis v Max Schmeling and probably even before that tbh.

Rubbing salt in the wounds of the defeated nations does nothing for world peace going forward.
If Britain had been on the wrong end of a couple of World War final scores, people would more readily be able to see where Maurice (and maybe slim) are coming from.

Right Charlie (III) was saying this week World War heroes will never be forgotten.

Of course they will.

Can anyone name anyone who fell at Agincourt?

Or in the defeat of the Spanish Armada?

Time....passes.

Memories....fade.

Like everyone, I'm glad I live in a (relatively) free country but people cling to this stuff like a security blanket - Britain isn't "Great" any more (if it ever was) and "Victory" celebrations don't endear Britain to the rest of the world.

Sadly, Danny is right, politics in sport is nothing new - in the last week George Galloway goaded Mo Salah, who then goaded Uefa, into statements on Gaza after the death of the Palestine national football captain during the conflict.

But sport shouldn't be used as a vehicle for politics - I detested Countryside Alliance "vote Tory to save events like this" propaganda when I used to go Pointing and I detest racing doing the same - like Fakenham getting involved in Inheritance Tax for farmers.

No f$%*er in racing speaks for me and I disassociate myself from all of it.
