Ntl "broadband" Freebies?

At present I have a rag-bag of stuff.

I'm a BT customer.

I use 1363 for most calls.

I'm with Tiscali @ £14.99pm for 2meg broadband and free weekend calls.

I have a stand-alone Freeview box but pay £7.99pm for TopUp TV.

I buy (most) Celtic games on Setanta PPV via TopUp TV at £8 normally, £10 for Old Firm games.

Is there a better package out there?

(I don't have any satellite/cable deals other than digibox/TopUp but wouldn't mind access to Sky Sports and maybe Sky Movies. The rest of the satellite/cable stuff would send me suicidal.)

Paul, don't bother with Orange. I've just cancelled my account with them after paying £20 for an upgrade from 1mb to 2mb in February. Despite calling them 5 times over a period of 4 months to tell them it still hadn't been done, nothing happened. Called, got £20 re-imbursed and closed account. I'm signing up to the talk talk package. Parents took it a few weeks back and no problems so far.

Cheers, Dave. I think I am going to leave Telewest for everything and hunt around for better deals.

Not certain that's the best package for you DO - a friend of mine was telling me about her TV package which includes the Sky Digital (basic package), broadband internet and the free evening and weekend calls to UK landlines for £14.99 I think it was. Would have to check up as it was a few weeks ago and I can't remember the exact details.

Phil.

You work for ntl now, don't you?
I look after one of the part-time teams.

Brian, ntl's version of TV Drive will be called the PVR (Personal Video Recorder) and is being released around late Sept/early Oct.

No news of Setanta. (And in this case, no news ISN'T good news)

On a slightly different note...

I was dealing with a customer who had been charged since Sept 03 for an additional set top box (£15 per month) in error.

The feeling amongst colleagues was "she should have checked her bill, the stupid fool" and "she's got no chance of getting her money back".

An argument put forward, in a serious tone, was - "If we give in to these sort of situations, we will be handing away ntl's profit" - to which, I pointed out, "it isn't ntl's money, though. It's the customer's money. Ntl have given nothing to this woman in exchange for her £525. How can this money be considered profit? It's a form of theft."

I have no friends in ntl.

No, not yet.

Something as simple as someone being charged in error for something they have not received is, apparently, not as simple as someone being charged in error for something they have not received.

Is it, in the eyes of the law, 'obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception'? NTL now knows (well, some of its staff does) that it obtained this woman's money by default and is holding onto it in that knowledge, while making no effort to return it. I've a good mind to cancel my RUK sub just for spite now!

How I hate blaggers - whether they blag due to making mistakes they don't admit (as in this case) or deliberately set out to defraud, I detest the scum.

I prefer to think about Meg's box as little as humanly possible.

Although, out of interest, would that be a forced hit or a simple refresh?
